HTC ThunderBolt Gingerbread Update Still Slated for Roll Out in September

Published

on

The launch of the Motorola Droid Bionic has been out for several weeks. The releases of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Samsung Droid Prime are on the horizon, the latter of which could be a 4G LTE device. We have the HTC Vigor, a 4G LTE itself, in the mix And still, a 4G LTE device, one that was supposedly Verizon’s flagship, is still without its Android Gingerbread update. That device, is of course, the HTC ThunderBolt.

HTC promised HTC ThunderBolt owners, who have endured a seven month wait for the update, that they would see Gingerbread roll out in September and as we approach the final days of the month, ThunderBolt owners have begun looking for their pitchforks.

HTC ThunderBolt Gingerbread

Not so fast, says HTC. The manufacturer, in a tweet today, confirmed that the update is still slated to be out in September saying that the software will begin rolling out ‘very soon.’

HTC currently has four days to make good on that promise so we hope that its information is correct. In its defense, we have seen Gingerbread leak out for the HTC ThunderBolt lately, a sign that things are in motion.

Still, we wouldn’t be surprised to learn that many already have or are giving up on their ThunderBolt in order to get a Galaxy Nexus, Droid Prime or Vigor.

Sound about right?

This has become more of a joke than anything else. I’ll believe it when I see the little update icon on the corner of my phone.

you guys are a bunch of spoiled little brats….. Motorola, Samsung and any owner of a other brand will tell you how long it takes them to update their phones, HTC has always been the fastest on updating their phones…… obviously they are making everything perfect before they release the update to avoid any wining…..

And i doubt it’s HTC fault, Its probably Verizon telling them what they can add and what they can’t…..

I already paid for this HTC phone, but I promise it’s the last one I buy. My next cell phone will be a Motorola or any other brand.

I agree, this was the first and last HTC phone I ever buy.

Same here. The fact that they can roll out a “flagship” phone which dies half-way through the day (with all background data/gps/bluetooth AND brightness turned down) is mind boggling. F%^k you HTC

Twitter seems to be the only way to actually get info about the Thunderbolt from HTC. Their website doesn’t even admit that it exists save one PR piece buried in an old “News” section.

The thunderbolt is still an amazing phone, possibly still the best on Verizon ( and I say this knowing of the Bionic). All we are talking about here is the UI, which no phone creates perfectly, Motorola probably the worst. htc phones are some of the best and easiest to root and customize…I have had Gingerbread now for 3 months, just takes some very novice-oriented know-how to have a fantastic device, can’t wait to see what the Vigor has to offer!

I’m am done with HTC and Android. Im moving to Apple. I don’t know anyone who is dissatisfied with anything Apple makes and they never put out a product that’s not complete. Things like this will be the downfall of android based products if they don’t fix it.

Well, good luck! You will wait almost 2 years for a phone that does half of what android does.  Have fun on being in Steve Jobs domain and limitations.

I have been running Forever since it was first released. Version 1.0.6 is almost flawless with sense 3.0 and is a daily driver for me. Verizon has to install all their bloatware which I don’t need. I have had gingerbread for months and love it. It will be interesting to see what version of sense this will have.

I dont think its coming. HTC and Verizon have really dropped the ball and owe the customers.

My understanding HTC has already released the update to Verizon but Verizon sends it to another company to get it ready to roll out as a ota update.

definatly ditching the t-bolt as soon as a decent dual-core comes out. Sick of broken promises and disappointment.

I’m more inclined to root than to drop the manufacturer. Basically I’ve lost all loyalty in HTC which carried me from the Incredible from the Thunderbolt. From now on I’ll go with whoever’s hardware is best.

Thunderbolt is a piece of junk.

    1.
     No Gingerbread

    2.
    Unacceptably poor battery life

    3.
A crappy back – bad clip system

    4.
    Loaded with VZW bloat

    5.
    Frequent lock up

    4G is great

Gingerbread will fix battery life and the clip.

Your a bitchin troll. No gingerbread who the hell cares it barely adds anything from Froyo. You act like its going to be an entirely different phone altogether with gingerbread. My thunderbolt lasts all day and I use it a lot for everything. Stop watching porn movies on your t bolt. All of HTC phones have the same battery door as thunderbolt. It’s not crappy at all how the hell is it. Verizon puts all that bloat ware on all their phones you jack ass. And my thunderbolt hasn’t locked up on me once ever. I have three other friends who own the thunderbolt and they’ve never had any problems with lock ups or battery life either. Get a life people. I don’t care what you do buy any phone you want or go jack off in Obamas face I don’t care. How about you get a life and stop getting on these sites to complain because your jealous about a phone you don’t even own.

Come on guys, what are you complaining about! The phone works fine. I will be glad when the update comes out but until it does my t bolt works great. Just get the extended battery and you will have plenty of juice for a 15 hour day. As for me the iPhone would never be an option considering they put a new phone out every 3 years, Lol! And there screen size stinks.
