HTC ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich Update Gets Some Good News
Just like the Verizon Galaxy Nexus Jelly Bean update before it, the HTC ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich update has received some good news.
In comments made on its Facebook page to HTC ThunderBolt owners, HTC has stated that it still plans on rolling out the HTC ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich update this month which would put it within the time frame that it originally gave to ThunderBolt owners earlier this year.

HTC says that it’s still working on the ThunderBolt’s ICS update and that it is still planning to roll it out to owners this month. The company has also said that it hasn’t forgotten about the HTC ThunderBolt update in response to an owners inquiry about whether the company had forgotten about the update.
Fortunately, HTC’s response isn’t just a one time thing. It has given several customers this scenario. So, while this isn’t the confirmation many owners have been seeking, it’s certainly good news nonetheless.
Of course, if HTC and Verizon weren’t going to roll out the update, we doubt that they would confirm that bad news through Facebook responses to ThunderBolt owners.
So, as of right now, it looks like HTC, at least on the surface, still believes that the HTC ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich update is going to roll out in August.
The news comes shortly after HTC cancelled the ICS update for a device that’s quite similar to the HTC ThunderBolt, spec-wise.
The company decided not to roll out the HTC Desire HD ICS update after determining that owners would have to wipe their phones in order to install the software.
Shortly after that, we heard that there was a 95% chance that the HTC ThunderBolt ICS update would not end up rolling out to owners despite HTC’s promise.
Besides the Facebook confirmations, there are still two things that HTC ThunderBolt owners can look at as evidence that a roll out could still take place.
Read: 5 Thoughts on the HTC ThunderBolt Ice Cream Sandwich Update.
One, the HTC Desire HD only has 1.5GB of onboard space, something that played a factor in HTC’s decision to cancel it. The ThunderBolt has 8GB of storage. And secondly, the HTC ThunderBolt is in the hands on many customers on Verizon and that could be the pressure that forces them to work extra hard on rolling out the software.
So, if HTC is correct here, and it’s possible that it’s not, the HTC ThunderBolt update is still on track for August.
What do you think TBolt owners? Do you believe HTC?

I’d be interested in knowing how many active Thunderbolt users Verizon still has left. Most everyone I know has already moved to another device. I still have mine.

I still have mine, at least until upgrade time in January, but I also have an unlimited data plan that I don’t want to lose.

Lucky for thunderbolt owners we have and LTE sim card meaning if you pay full retail price after your contract expires which can be cheap online, you can activate it and keep the unlimited data. 3g only users are not so fortunate in that they do not have this option.

Would u lose your unlimited data of you upgrade to a diff phone?

Because Verizon is forcing customers with unlimited data to one of their other “options” when upgrading.

If you buy a phone for regular price or off of Craigslist, and the phone is a 4g phone you will not lose your unlimited data. You can switch devices yourself on their website

I still have my tbolt and she has worked like a charm for me. No battery problems and when I first got it I had the reboot issues. Even now after the last update every now and then it will reboot otherwise it is great. I can tell you this though, if VZW would allow me to upgrade I would dump it right now for the Samsung G III. I will not believe we are getting the update until I see it on my phone or someone posts pics showing their phone updating.

I still have mine and am very happy with it. I personally don’t care whether or not I get Ice Cream. When my contract expires, I may move to a HTC dual-core phone, but that’s not because I’m itching to get rid of the TB.

Okay I called both HTC and Verizon abiut the ics update. Htc says they can’t say anything becuase they dont want to up set customers. I said well why do u tell customers they will get it and take it back. Why would u not say we don’t know in the first place instead of giveing customers false info and false hopes. Well after all that called verizon and the rep. said he would be surprised if the tb gets it. He said 95% sure they will not get the ics for the tb. So that is from there mouths. So i will most like be moding, jail brakeing or what ever its called. Lol any ideas people.

I still love my TBolt! have been waiting for this update, ICS, a long time. From what I have seen on YouTube, it will make the TBolt like a new Phone! Can’t wait, hope its not late!
MY prediction is the last Friday of August, only 2 Fridays left now, so we will see. My Daughter in law has a rezound, ICS Rolled out 8-2, but she has not received the update yet.
