HTC Vertex Quad-Core Tablet In the Works

Back in November of 2011, a quad-core tablet called the HTC Quattro was rumored to be in the works but never arrived on shelves. Today, the HTC Quattro is once again back in the spotlight as an HTC quad-core tablet called the HTC Vertex has surfaced in some benchmarks.

The HTC Vertex, which appears to be similar to the HTC Quattro, has shown up in some Nenamark benchmarks which were discovered by Blog of Mobile, courtesy of Engadget.

The benchmarks, if real, confirm an HTC tablet device with a 1.3GHz Tegra 3 processor, Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich and a wide display with 1,280 x 752.

Other than that, the HTC Vertex remains a mystery.

HTC is apparently working on a new tablet called the HTC Vertex.

Assuming the Vertex and Quattro are the same or similar devices, the Vertex may have 1GB of RAM, 16GB of on board storage, Bluetooth 4.0, Beats Audio, a 2MP rear camera and a 1.3MP shooter up front. Those were rumored specs from the HTC Quattro, specs that leaked out in November of last year.

So, it’s entirely possible that the device has received some upgrades since then.

Yesterday, we heard that HTC has another tablet planned and that it would have a “unique” feature on board. It’s unclear what that feature is and we’re going to assume that it’s not the quad-core processor at this point because that’s already been done.

We’re also going to assume that the device will arrive with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at launch rather than Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

As for a release date, the IFA trade show in Berlin, which kicks off at the end of August, seems like as good of a place as any for an HTC tablet launch.

We’ll keep our eyes peeled.
