HTC Vigor Looks Pedestrian Next to Sharp Aquos 102SH Smartphone

If you want everything–and the kitchen sink–in a smartphone, look no further than the Sharp Aquos 102SH Android smartphone that’s destined for the Japanese market. The Aquos-branded Android device packs in a lot of drool-worthy specs that makes our geeky hearts lust after it, including being among one of the first publicly announced devices to sport a 720p HD resolution touchscreen, dual-core processing power, 12-megapixel camera, and glasses-free 3D capabilities.

The phone will be offered through Japanese carrier Softbank beginning in December, so unfortunately you’ll have to wait a while–if you’re in Japan–to land your hands on one of these devices. That said, it’s unclear what Sharp’s intentions are for bringing this device to other geographic locations across the world. Earlier this year, Sharp reps at CES mentioned that they’ll be taking their smartphones global and expected to ship a Sharp-branded smartphone to the U.S. market, but to date that has not happened yet.

The Aquos 102SH will come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread pre-loaded. The device will have a 4.5-inch glasses-free 3D screen that’s similar to that found on the HTC EVO 3D but will feature a higher resolution 720 X 1280 pixels display with 329 pixels per inch. A 12-megapixel camera with full 1080p HD video capture, dual-core 1 GHz Texas Instruments OMAP CPU, infra-red sensor, digital TV tuner and waterproof case design will also come with the feature-packed smartphone.

Despite the number of features that will come with the phone, the device has a slim body. Other than the 4G LTE Verizon network support of the forthcoming HTC Vigor, that device looks pedestrian now compared to the Sharp Aquos, which bests the Vigor with a glasses-free 3D experience, waterproof body, and better camera.

I don’t fully understand how it makes the Vigor by HTC look pedestrian. I mean who really wants 3D imaging on their phones to begin with? The vigor looks like the far superior phone in terms of specs anyways with a 1.5 dual core processor and with a 4.3″ screen will be far better making the screen really pop out in 720p.

It is in Japan, not the USA, with no info on any release here so who cares? I will be getting a vigor. You can’t wait forever for a put perfect phone since there will always be a better one coming.

When will tech writers stop writing about stupid phone specs. Examples:
“…come with Android 2.3 Gingerbread pre-loaded” – of course it’s preloaded. what else would it be. When has there been an android phone that had NO operating system at all?
“12 megapixel camera” – I don’t know about everybody else, but i stopped caring about megapixels once we reached about 8 or so. Higher pixel density is actually WORSE for low light shots. What I really care about is how big the aperture can get. I want a lot of light in the phone so i can take faster shutter speeds to freeze a sports shot or have less grainy/noisy night shots.
“…camera with autofocus” – of course it has autofocus. Has there been a smartphone (in the past 4 years) that hasn’t had autofocus? If it didn’t have autofocus, would there be a 2″ barrel for rotating manual focus like on a SLR? The autofocus comment is silly. I recognize that this particular author didn’t do this, but i was ranting… I couldn’t help myself.

When will folks stop referring to dopes like this author as “tech writers”? You’re giving him way too much credit.

This article is just plain stupid. Author: stretching for comparisons much? And who gives a hoot about 3D?? My friend’s EVO 3D is just about the dumbest gimmick in a smartphone I’ve seen in a long time. Don’t read this article. If you’re reading the comments, it’s already too late.

haha its better because it has 3d, its waterproof body and better camera. The only portable device to succesfully market 3d was the 3ds which is a gimmick disigned for 10 year olds, a waterproof body haha i just cant help bt laugh at that, and how can you say it has a better camera when u havn’t tested either of them.. more megapixels doesn’t make it better.. im not saying its a poor phone.. just a really poor article
