Nintendo wasn't exactly among the first companies to rush into online-multiplayer. In fact, if you ask most gamers who've experienced all three, they might say that Nintendo's online gaming network on the Wii U gaming console is pretty barebones. You can imagine the amazement when the company revealed its coming online gaming network.
Nintendo itself describes this new online network as a "jointly developed integrated membership service which connects smart devices and dedicated video game systems." Put plainly, Nintendo is hoping to entice users to its consoles with companion experiences. It sort of sounds like what Microsoft is trying with its Xbox on Windows 10 app, but with far better mobile support than what Microsoft offers today. E3 2015 would be the perfect time for Nintendo to clarify what it has planned for the service. Is it possible that buying one of the company's upcoming smartphone games will unlock something on the Nintendo 3DS or Wii U? We don't yet know. |
