Infinite Warfare: Which Edition to Buy

Published

on

“Which version of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare should I buy?” is a very common question. There is a simple answer for many gamers, but the biggest fans also have a potential pothole in the way of pre-ordering today.

This is what you need to know about the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare versions, what you get with each and the confirmation that there is no super special Infinite Warfare Collectors edition coming.

We also walk through where you can buy the game, if you can cancel your Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare pre-order and how this all plays into the Infinite Warfare beta that we expect later this year.

The Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare release date is November 4, 2016, but the game is already available to pre-order on disk or digital. We saw campaign gameplay at E3 and next week we will finally see the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer gameplay reveal at Call of Duty XP.

You can buy Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare on PS4, Xbox One and PC, but there is no version for the Xbox 360 or PS3.

Should I Buy Infinite Warfare for PS4, Xbox One or PC

Assuming you have more than one console or PC in your collection it is important which version you buy. After playing Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 on PS4 and Xbox One while observing the PC community here’s what you need to know.

Choose which version of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare to buy.

Choose which version of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare to buy.

The PS4 will get DLC 30 days before the Xbox One and the PC. If that matters to you and you have friends on PS4 go that route.

After using a Scuf controller on the PS4 and the Xbox One Elite Controller, I still enjoy playing Call of Duty on the Xbox One most of all. Even though Microsoft uses Scuf technology the overall experience is better for me on Xbox One.

The PC may get mods, but it could come later and we are not seeing any Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 mods for consoles. There is nothing definitive here, but the PC has the biggest chance of mods. It also has the lowest player base and you may have trouble finding matches as the game ages and DLC splinters matchmaking.

Ultimately it is your call, but PS4 players get maps first, PC players may get mods and Xbox players get an amazing controller.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Standard Edition

Call of Duty Infinite Warfare standardThe Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare standard edition is $59.99 and is available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. This includes the base game and that’s about it. You can find it cheaper with Infinite Warfare deals that can cut the price down 20% or more.

You still get pre-order bonuses including 500 Call of Duty Points if you buy at a retailer and 1,000 if you buy digitally and you get a code for a future offer (the beta).

This is for gamers who just want to get into the game and don’t care about added items or older Call of Duty games.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Legacy Edition

Call of Duty Infinite Warfare LegacyThe Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Legacy Edition is the one that many gamers will buy. For $79.99 (or less with deals) you get the new Infinite Warfare game and you get Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered.

Right now this is the only way to get the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered game and you need to buy this to play it. Sometime down the road there may be a special individual sale of the remastered game, but it’s not likely happening this year.

For $20 more you get the Call of Duty 4 remaster. That’s really the only difference between the two versions.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Digital Deluxe

Call of Duty- Infinite Warfare Digital DeluxeThe top end version is Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Digital Deluxe. You can buy this on Steam, the PlayStation Store or the Xbox Store as well as in some stores as a digital code.

At $99.99 there are not many deals available, but it does offer some savings to gamers since it includes the Season Pass, which is normally $49.99 alone. With this version of the game you get;

  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered
  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Season Pass

You can download this digitally and play it as soon as the game is live. This includes access to a special pre-order bonus that is likely the Infinite Warfare beta.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Legacy Pro Edition

Call of Duty Infinite Warfare Legacy ProIf you want collectibles, GameStop offers the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Legacy Pro Edition for $119. There are no deals on this version and with it you get similar items to the Digital Deluxe, but with added collectibles.

  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered
  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Season Pass
  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Bonus Content
  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Soundtrack

In addition to this you also get a collectible steelbook to store the game in and access to the beta. It’s not clear what the extra digital content in the game is, but it may be weapon skins.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Collector’s Edition

There is no chance that we will see a limited Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Collectors Edition announced at Call of Duty XP.

We saw a late announcement happen in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 with the Juggernog edition that sold out fast and there is a special Battlefield 1 edition, but what you see is what you get with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

Speaking to VentureBeat, Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing shared that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is the bonus, and nothing else. Hirshberg explains,

“It’s our biggest bonus content ever, our most valuable bonus content. We’ve had collector’s editions that have been creative and well-received. But this is taking the place of things in the past like night-vision goggles or GoPro cameras or Juggernaut refrigerators for your game room. This year we’re offering an entire remastered, beautiful version of one of the greatest games of all time.

We’re thrilled to offer it to the community, because we do know there are people who love and appreciate that classic gameplay, and of course, it offers a way to satisfy all of our fans, no matter which style of gameplay they’re looking for. The combination of the two games is really what drove us. We have a new creative vision for Infinite Warfare paired with one of our most beloved games brought to life in a new way.”

Can I Cancel My Infinite Warfare Pre-Order

After the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare trailer reached an all time high for dislikes it is clear that many gamers are frustrated, but that’s a lot of judging based on one video.

You can place a Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare pre-order for any of disk versions of the game and get access to the special bonus, that we think is the beta. If you play the beta and decide that you don’t like the game, you can cancel your pre-order at the retailer with no money lost.

However, if you place a digital Infinite Warfare pre-order on PlayStation or Xbox, you cannot get a refund or cancel you order. Keep that in mind before you choose how you want to order.

Call of Duty- Infinite Warfare Disk or Digital

Should I Buy Digital or Physical Infinite Warfare

If you buy Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare digitally you can pre-load the game and play earlier. Right now it is the only option that is guaranteed playable at midnight, and you don’t even need to go out for that joy.

With a digital version of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare you will not need to switch disks when you switch games and with this option you can get a deal on the Season Pass.

One reason to go for the disk is that you can find more deals on it. These include 20% off at Amazon and Best Buy as well as others down the road. You can also re-sell the disk if you don’t like the game. We don’t recommend buying with a plan to sell Infinite Warfare and keep Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered until we learn more about how that will play out.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Release Date Details & Videos

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Release Date

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Release Date

The official Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare release date is November 4th. This is a Friday, but the game actually comes out on Thursday in many places, timed to a midnight Eastern release.

You can pre-order Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare at Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, Target and other retailers for release date pickup in store and still for release date delivery.

There is no early Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare release date, like we saw with Battelfield 1 and with many EA games.

If you already have early Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered access on PS4 you can play online sporadically as the servers are up for testing.

One does simply not get a Battlefield game on console as it is absolutely terrible. 4 minutes to find a kill? No thank you.

Odd how nobody addresses a few major issues…. 1: can it be played on a PC and will it work as good… do you need special controllers instead of a keyboard?…. 2: can this game be played alone, without logging onto the Internet with all those download fees, and putting up with cheaters. 3: does this game (box) come with the disks or do you have to pay $60 in download fees and spend 12 hours downloading the game?

It’s available for PC, you will probably need 70-100gbs of free space though. That’s IF you get COD4 Remastered and IW.

I’m sure IW is keyboard compatible, its up too you if you want to have a controller.

      3. If you buy the PHYSICAL game you will get disks, if you buy it from steam.. well then you will get digital of course.

I’m sure your data is saved on cloud servers for online stuff, single player stuff is saved to your local cache.. it could be possible that they are using cloud server technology for single player data as well.. but that’s more of a wait to see thing.

IMO – I wouldn’t pre-order the game yet.. I mean there is still 2 weeks until launch.. but if you pre-order the digital version you cannot get a refund for it via steam.. since its digital..

For those who praise BF1: it’s an awesome game, I bought it, but then again I sometimes miss the simple and fast action from BO3 (Zombies? yes, please). Don’t judge too fast a game based on its trailer: I think COD IW will be ok, it’s just gamers expected too much of a change. If I want something for COD franchise, it is to go back to MW1 style, exactly than one, that is contemporary warfare.
