We’ve been following Instagram’s Android app for months, and now just weeks after launching the Instagram for Android teaser page, Instagram for Android has launched.

Instagram for Android is now available for practically every Android smartphone n the Google Play Store as a free download.

Instagram for Android is more than just a photography app with artistic filters, it’s also a huge social network with over 27 million users. The Instagram community will grow today as the millions of Android users can now download the popular app.

Instagram for Android launches

Instagram for Android doesn’t have the same issues Temple Run did at launch, with support for any Android phone running Android 2.2 or higher.

Instagram’s CEO claims that Instagram for Android is better than the iPhone version, something I’m already testing out now that we have the Instagram Android app on my Galaxy Nexus. At first glance, the app looks much like the iPhone app you’ve envied for months, but as you move through menus and settings you see distinct Android markings.

Instagram for Android allows you to take photos, apply filters and then share with the Instagram community as well as post to Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr and Foursquare; support for Flickr is coming soon. You can use the front or back camera to take photos inside the Instagram app.

One feature that is missing is the ability to post photos to Google+.

Early user reviews are positive, though there are reports of unknown errors by some posters.

I found out why you can get the unknown error issue. I had my camera set to VGA, it will not do small photos in VGA for some reason. Once you set it above that, it will work fine. Go figure, fine with me though.

VGA on your phone or on the app itself?

Says photo is too small if i try to load a vga pic. If you have your phone set to vga you might get ‘unknown’ error.

How can I upload past pictures to facebook so they are large? If I go back to a photo and click “share,” it only posts as the small picture that takes you to an external page. HOw do you upload older photos that you didnt post to facebook but now want to and have it be large? The iphone instructions dont translate to the android.
