iOS 6.1.2 Release Date Rumored for Next Week

After iOS 6.1, iPhone owners have been experiencing a number of different issues from battery life drain to Exchange issues. There is also a security bug that has been discovered lurking in iOS 6.1. However, it appears that the company is poised to patch up at least two of those issues as a new report claims that iOS 6.1.2 will be out as soon as next week.

The arrival of iOS 6.1 last month seems to have brought a bug that can cause increased network activity and decreased battery life for users with an Exchange account. Exchange is an email service that is used by companies all over the world. The bug apparently causes battery life to drain when changes are made to the an Exchange calendar.

We’ve also heard that the iPhone 4S iOS 6.1.1 update has brought battery drain issues for iPhone 4S owners as well and it’s likely that many of them are suffering from this issue with Exchange. Also discovered earlier this week was a security bug that lets users bypass the lock screen to access the Contacts app and more. Needless to say, these are big issues and they are ones that Apple needs and intends to fix, possibly as soon as next week.

According to a report from German site iFun, which was dead-on about the release of iOS 6.1.1, the iOS 6.1.2 release date could come as soon as next week, possibly by February 20th. The update will apparently tackle these issues and return battery life and security back to normal for iOS 6 users.

Apple doesn’t give release dates for incremental iOS updates so iPhone and iPad owners will likely be in the dark about the release date up until the update actually rolls out. The company typically releases software in the morning.

iOS 6.1.2 will likely represent the second emergency update for iDevice owners since the release of iOS 6. The first, iOS 6.1.1 was released for iPhone 4S owners to tackle a 3G connectivity issue.

Apple has promised relief for these issues and it appears that the company may strike relatively quickly to get them under control.
