iOS 6.1.3 Update Kills Evasi0n iOS 6 Jailbreak

The arrival of iOS 6.1.3 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch today has not only plugged up a security exploit with the Emergency Call button but it has also plugged up the exploits that the iOS 6.1 jailbreak tool Evasi0n used to function which means that iPhone 5 owners who wish to stay jailbroken or wish to jailbreak in the future won’t want to download iOS 6.1.3.

Earlier today, Apple rolled out its latest version of iOS 6.1 in the form of iOS 6.1.3. The update is a small update, only 18MB in size for the iPhone 5, but it brings quite a bit along with it.

On the surface, the software appears rather harmless, claiming that it will bring some new Apple Maps functionality to users in Japan while also plugging up a security exploit that was discovered after the arrival of iOS 6.1. However, the update also has a sinister side as it kills the long functional Evasi0n iOS 6 jailbreak that arrived for users many months ago.

While we had heard that Apple was going to be plugging up the exploits used by the iOS 6.1 jailbreak, created by the Evadr3s jailbreak team, today’s release confirms the bad news. Apple has confirmed the bad news, even giving credit to the Evadr3s team for four of the six exploits that were patched up with the update.

This of course is bad news for those that have already updated to iOS 6.1.3 because it means the Evasi0n jailbreak is no longer compatible with the device. Those with compatible devices like the iPhone 5 and iPad 4who wish to jailbreak will want to stay on iOS 6.1.2 or below in order to do so.

Those who are jailbroken on iOS 6.1.2 will have to remain there for the foreseeable future as well, likely until the release of iOS 7 later on in the year. Even then, it’s unclear if the Evadr3s team will be able to deliver an iOS 7 jailbreak for owners of the iPhone 5, iPad and more.
