iOS 6 Jailbreak Release Not Linked to iOS 6.1 Release Date

Published

on

The iOS 6 jailbreak release is not linked to the iOS 6.1 release.

We previously reported that the iOS 6 jailbreak release was on hold until after the iOS 6.1 release date because the new software breaks part of the jailbreak and because the team does not want to burn an essential jailbreak exploit.

Planetbeing provided more details in comments of the original reddit post, saying that, “iOS 6.1 is entirely irrelevant to that reason.”

Update on the tie between IOS 6 and the iOS 6.1 release date.

The bigger issue is that releasing the iOS 6 jailbreak would allow Apple to fix an exploit that lets the team explore new firmwares, an essential tool for developing a jailbreak. The ability to look at new firmware for jailbreak details is how the team is able to figure out how to jailbreak new versions of iOS and new devices.

With iOS 6, jailbreaking is much tougher, but both pod2g and Planetbeing remain optimistic. In a recent interview pod2g said he is optimistic about the next six months and early in 2013 he promised that calls for an open iOS are not a sign that the jailbreak community is giving up.

iOS hacker Planetbeing downplayed the difficulty, saying, “reports of its death are highly exaggerated.”

Planetbeing announced earlier this week that he has a successful untethered iOS 6 jailbreak for the iPhone 5. Specifically an untethered iOS 6.0.2 jailbreak, which is the most current software on the iPhone 5 and iPad mini.

Even though the iOS 6 jailbreak release is not tied to the ISO 6.1 release date, users hoping to unlock more features on their iPhone 5 shouldn’t upgrade to iOS 6.1 as it breaks part of the current iOS 6 jailbreak.

Progress on the iOS 6 jailbreak is moving along much faster than in 2012, or at least it appears that way based on mor frequent public comments by respected iPhone jailbreak developers and hackers. Thankfully the number of fake iPhone 5 jailbreaks and iOS 6 jailbreak scams appear to be tapering off.

Stay tuned for the latest iOS 6 jailbreak news.

Just because it’s illegal (or will be soon) wont stop developers from making them for the iPad. If they get an untethered jailbreak out for iOS 6.X on all the iPhones/Pods, it will also work on the iPad (as the software and hardware are very much the same). They are working n the jailbreak for all current iOS devices (including the iPad)

I read a lot of forums on this. To be honest it sickens me listening to everyone whine about a jailbreak. I personally like my iPhone jail broken but its not a necessity. You need to realize that these devs providing jailbreaks do it for nothing. They spend their free time doing this for the entire idevice community. I’m not quite sure if most people understand what it takes to find an exploit. If you don’t please google it and take a look. The devs don’t owe you or anybody anything. If you don’t like your idevice then switch to a less expensive and less secure product that you can customize. I like the galaxies and the nokias and soforth. I just happen to like the idevices better. You shouldn’t buy an idevice because you expect somebody else to figure out on how to jailbreak it and give it to you for free. When I buy a product such as my iPhone, or iMac and pay as much money for them as I do then I’m going to like it for what it is. If I don’t like something then I don’t get it or I make a switch. That’s just me. I don’t need to whine about a free hand out or threaten a company that I’m going to switch products on a forum they aren’t even going to look at. They don’t care. They are still too wealthy as if now. Over time they will feel it in their pockets because of list sales. Don’t expect that soon either. Most idevice users don’t jailbreak. So, if you don’t like your idevice then move on to something that makes you happy.

I think you should give the devs free handies to show your appreciation!
