iOS 7.0.3 Complaints Pile Up as Users Clamor for iOS 7.0.4

Published

on

Complaints regarding Apple’s most recent iOS 7 update, iOS 7.0.3, continue to pile up as iPhone and iPad users are continuing to encounter issues with the new software. And with no iOS 7.1 update in sight, it looks like iPhone and iPad owners are going to have to have wait a little longer to find out whether Apple has official fixes up its sleeve for lingering iOS 7 problems.

Earlier this month, Apple rolled out a brand new iOS 7 update for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners in the form of iOS 7.0.3. iOS 7.0.3 had been promised for this month by Apple after the company discovered two major bugs plaguing the operating system. The first, a severe iMessage issue that iPhone owners encountered that prevented some owners from sending and receiving iMessages. The other, a broken filter system on iPads being used at school.

Apple confirmed fixes for those two issues but the iOS 7.0.3 update actually came with a bunch of other fixes for lingering issues that iOS 7 users had been experiencing since the arrival of iOS 7, iOS 7.0.1 and iOS 7.0.2. It also finally delivered iCloud Keychain to those that had been looking forward to the security feature since WWDC 2013.

While the iOS 7.0.3 fixed software issues from some iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners, the update also appears to have brought some bugs of its own along with it. Since its release, we have been updating iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners about the iOS 7.0.3 issues that we’ve been encountering and hearing about from its users in an effort to try and spawn temporary fixes for those in trouble.

The coverage has also prompted many iOS 7.0.3 owners to reach out and explain their iOS 7.0.3 issues in detail. Over the weekend, we heard from several iOS 7 owners who have been experiencing some major issues after updating to iOS 7.0.3 and we have even started to see some issues of our own.

Today, our own Josh Smith, an iPhone 5s owner, experienced a white screen random reboot when trying to make a call. This is the second iPhone 5s that has experienced this issue after iOS 7.0.3. While the original issue was seen on a T-Mobile iPhone 5s, Smith’s iPhone 5s is a Verizon iPhone 5s.

iOS 7.0.3 owners have also chimed in with their own issues. One iPhone 4 owner tells Gotta Be Mobile that the iOS 7.0.3 update has introduced an issue with his speakers which he says is

“…giving me distorted sound from the speakers every time the speakers are activated (i.e. when the phone is ringing, when the alarm goes off, etc.)”

The issue apparently did not exist prior to the iOS 7.0.3 update and unfortunately, every fix he has tried, including a restore to the factory settings, has not fixed the problem.

Several iPad mini owners have written in exclaiming that after updating to iOS 7.0.3, their user interface has started to lag. We actually experienced some improvements to the lag on our iPad 3 but it looks like the new update did nothing to solve issues that others have been experiencing ever since iOS 7 arrived back in September.

Get a a text or email when the iPhone 5s is in stock at a local Apple Store.

An iPhone 5 owner wrote in to complain about the black screen that she is now getting whenever somebody calls her and another iOS 7.0.3 users claims to not be able to print anything now that she is using iOS 7.0.3. One claims that the issues are so bad, that she is considering going back to her HP laptop if Apple is unable to fix the issues.

These problems are all new but it’s not clear just how widespread they are. What we do know is that they are not alone when it comes to iOS 7.0.3 issues. A quick look at Apple’s discussion forums reveals that many iPhone and iPad owners are having trouble with the new update.

For those that are seeing problems, the Apple discussion boards are the best place to find temporary fixes. As for permanent ones, well, that requires some patience as those typically don’t come until iOS updates. Apple never announces roll outs ahead of time so it’s unclear when iOS 7.0.4 or iOS 7.1 will roll out and what they might have on board when they do.

Better ioS 7 battery life

Apple tends to focus on the larger iOS issues so it’s not certain that iPhone, iPad and iPod touch owners with iOS 7.0.3 problems will get relief, even when one of those updates arrives. That hasn’t stopped users from clamoring for iOS 7.0.4 though.

Whether Apple will deliver soon or not remains to be seen.

iOS 7 is less user friendly than the old version. You have to perform about 3 more steps just to send an MMS and trying to call someone from the ‘messages’ screen is near impossible with the tiny phone icon at the top right hand corner. Why make things more complicated. I liked Apple when they went for simplicity and user friendliness.

David, this is not about the update to 7.0. It’s about the latest update to 7.0.3 that apparently has some problems. I just updated my iPhone 5 from 7.0.2 to 7.0.3. Luckily I have not seen any problems yet. I have got an incoming call, and listened to a pod cast, and not encountering any sound problems.

7.0.3 on my 4S now randomly activates voice control when listening to music and the only way to recover is to hard reboot – it’s even tried to call someone form my phone book, and as expected not a thing from Apple support. After all the problems with 7.0.0 I’m thinking of ditching Apple and looking at something else – this sucks!!!

  18. Alan

    10/29/2013 at 3:41 am

AWFUL!! The issues go WAY beyond the problems with iMessage which are incredibly annoying. I cannot delete messages, the nav is SLOW and sometimes completely unresponsive, and the battery life was somehow cut in half. BAD MOVE Apple. Bring on a better phone.

    10/29/2013 at 3:51 am

I have a brand new iphone 5s and i normally wont auto update and adopt a wait and see. But my son came along and clicked update! 7.0.3 is hell. Who does QC at apple ought to be fired. 3 times fixing bugs is no excuse! I even tried resetting and having the phone with no apps. (so dont tell me its my apps clashing with apple)

    I have
    – a sporadic non ringing phone!
    – it hangs your safari if you go to a news page with some videos
    – imessage works now but if you send a photo and press home too quickly before its sent, it will reboot halfway later
    – i think others ar right. Battery indicator seems to be wrong! It charges quicker than normal now and drains faster too. What a joke! Guy at apple tells me to turn off lte, change email polling to 1 hour, turn off blutetooth and dont use gmail calendars and contacts!

    10/29/2013 at 12:51 pm

why put pale colours on a pale background – for the army of greyheads who use iPhone & iPad this is a serous mistake – WE WANT CONTRAST – why nor embolden text and numbers – I inadvertantly deleted all my messages when trying to send a text in low light conditions becasue the software was new to me and blue on grey background doesn’t work!!!……- upping brightness doesn’t help either……FIXIT please

    • Josh

      11/03/2013 at 4:39 pm

In the accessibility settings in iOS 7 there is an option to ‘increase contrast.’ You can also increase the text size. Dad wears glasses and now he doesn’t need them as often when using his phone – these features have been vastly improved over iOS 6.

        11/04/2013 at 5:40 am

thanks – did that last week but it doesn’t help – anyone who gives ppts to audiences knows that pale on pale doesn’t work AT ALL – but of course Apple know better!!

I downloaded the latest update last night, and today kept getting a message saying that my data usage was used up, even though my AT&T app clearly says that it’s not. I called AT&T and they confirmed it had to be the newest software.

    10/29/2013 at 4:40 pm

I’m glad I read all of this before downloading. So….does one have to download 7.0.3 in order to update when 7.0.4 or 7/1 comes out?

    • UnhappyApple

      10/29/2013 at 5:36 pm

I updated my iPhone 4S with the 7.0.3 update and lost everything on my phone. The only way I could get it to come bAck on was to plug into iTunes and restore my phone. I can not reset my phone by holding down both bottoms bc it the goes to a black and white screen and takes hours to come back on. Also must of my Apps I uploaded back to my phone will not work. Tried contacting apple but there was no way to get through without having warranty.

My battery life is AWFUL! I upgraded to 7.0.3 … fully charged … nothing running in the background … sleep mode. Went to bed. Next day the battery was down to 13%. Before, with 7.0.2, I could go all day using the iPad with several things running in the background and never get below 60%. Now, I can’t go more than a few hours without having to recharge. Quite frankly, my iPad is pretty much useless in this condition.

After upgrading to ios 7.0.3 from ios 7.0.2 my phone reboots on its own for no apparent reason. While taking photos, writing SMSs, checking google maps, checking emails. Sick and tired of this update now and have no way to roll back to IOS 6. Did not expect such poor quality control from Apple, but we should now expect worse things from Apple after the Steve Jobs

How’s your ios7 working for you? :-) oh btw- I have owned all iPhones up to & including 4S (holding for larger screen version…. iphone 6?), have iPod and a MacBook Pro. Not Android fan boy here.

Not a fan of droid or Apple; however, I do expect “fixes” to work. 7.0.3 slowed down my phone considerably& pictures sent to me via txt or iMessage don’t load. They flicker…

I wish I had not gone w/a smart phone. Life w /my phone was som much better when it wasn’t “smart.”

Have iphone 5S. Have iOS7.0.2 installed for 2 months and absolutely hate it. Hate the new design, hate the fact that it ate through my battery for the first 2 weeks, hate that it freezes in the middle of open programs and crashes all the time. Hate it, hate it, hate it, wish i never installed the update and now afraid to even think of installing 7.0.3. Bring back the previous version, both design and functionality, please…

That’s the beauty of Android really. If you don’t like the look and feel of the phone you can just change it. Different icons, different keyboard, unlimited sized folders, dock or no dock, number of docks and number of icons on dock, you name it. If Apple did that, all this whinging would stop.

I don’t know what people are complaining about. Ever since I upgraded my iPhone 5 to iOS 7 (and the following updates), I have not seen a single issue that has been flying around in the media…no black/white screens, no resets, no speaker issues, no lagging, and whatever not. I mean why in the hell did I have to get stuck with the “good” version of iOS 7???!!? I can’t even argue my case with Apple or T-Mobile for an upgrade to 5S. I mean DDAAMMMNNN!!!!!

But on a serious note, NOTHING is bug free. Back in the late 90’s & the 2000’s, EVERYBODY had a problem with Microsoft that they don’t know what they are doing blah blah…especially when it came to Win ME & more recently with Vista. I have used both without any issues ever. iPhones were just fine until Android became big, and now people seem to see all these “bugs”, when in reality some issue or the other existed in every iOS. I use an Android phone also, & supposedly it has “bugs” also, but I have never had a problem. I clearly remember when iOS 6 & EVERYBODY jumped into the bugs it had…now those same people want to go back to iOS 6. Geez!!!

Use the product what it’s designed for, and everything should be alright.

    • Mel

      10/31/2013 at 11:38 am

Yes use it like the way it shud be use, that’s why maybe U dont see d bugs people are talking about. I presume ur using ur iphone for calling, texting & email. Explore on some apps & U myt see the bugs.

You are absolutely correct. I am primarily using it for just those things. Hmmm…maybe that’s what I am doing wrong…using the iPhone for what it is! Let me try & run World of Warcraft on it & see what happens :)

Just because you’ve never had a toothache doesn’t mean that nobody else has, and just because you haven’t experienced any problems with ios 7, 7.0.1, 7.0.2, or 7.0.3 doesn’t mean those who did are liars, Android fanboys, or whatever.

I updated to 7.0.3 and it’s a nightmare. When I go to listen to a song, all it does it skip it, then when I go to check if the song is still on the album, it’s only gone and been deleted! It skips several songs ahead randomly and completely messed up my music library. I regret ever updating and would highly recommend against doing so to anyone who has yet o update.

Stupid me. My son updated to iOS 7.0.3 and no problems. So I went ahead and did the update and now my battery percentage indicator doesn’t function properly, battery life sucks, and my screen goes dead with random reboots. We both have the iphone 5(bought on same day).He updated a week before me. We have noticed that on my phone ( that has problems) when u go to settings-general-usage, that when battery percentage is turned on there is a white I in the green bubble but not one on his phone ( that functions properly). Perhaps there were changes in update made and that is why some people r having problems and some not?
