iOS 7 Downgrade to iOS 6 Loophole Closed

Published

If you tried iOS 7 and are not a fan of the new design and features, it’s too late to downgrade from iOS 7 to iOS 6.

Normally Apple does not let users downgrade to a previous OS at all, but during the iOS 7 release period last week Apple continued signing versions of iOS 6.1.3 and iOS 6.1.4 for the iPhone 5, iPhone 4s, iPhone 4, iPads and other iOS 7 compatible devices.

This provided a free and fast way to switch from iOS 7 to iOS 6, but in the past several days Apple turned off access to this iOS 7 downgrade method.

Users who upgrade to iOS 7 from this point on are stuck with it. Users who are still on iOS 6 can stay on iOS 6 as long as they want to so long as they avoid clicking update in settings or when connected to a computer with iTunes installed.

iPhone 4 iOS 7 users can still downgrade from iOS 7 to iOS 6 if they saved their SHSH blobs, but this is not available for devices running newer Apple processors found on the rest of the iOS 7 capable devices.

Just a Penguin tracks what software updates Apple is signing and as of today, Apple is no longer validating iOS 6.1.3 and iOS 6.1.4 on the iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

This means even though users can download the iOS 6 files for all of these devices, Apple will reject the final part of the installation where the iPhone or iPad makes a call back to Apple to activate the software. While Android devices often allow users to upgrade and downgrade at will, and to run custom versions of Android software, Apple’s activation system is much tighter.

At this point users who upgraded to iOS 7 can not switch back to iOS 6, and users who want a different experience will need to wait for an iOS 7 jailbreak, which could be months away.

For users who are now stuck on iOS 7, here are our iOS 7 Guides to help you adjust to the new look and new features. We also have a list of 25 hidden iOS 7 features that will help you do even more with your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch running iOS 7.

Why did they allow ios 7 to be installed on iPhone 4? The software is incompatible with the hardware… Crooks!

Since switching to ios7, there is an annoying wide blue bar that randomly appears to scan while on certain screens or apps. Actually all screens except for the home screen. What is this and how can I get ride of it?!?

This seems to be true even for the Beta6 (11a4449d) installs… I had hoped since I never installed the GM or final release (if there is a difference) that I would be exempt from pushing forward with iOS7… but, alas, I’ve lost my iOS6 development iPad for testing purposes. This is poor form if you ask me.

Apple has limited iOS users options of downgrading their device to older firmware versions. iOS 7 is such a hate, and people wants to downgrade their devices to older firmware version till Apple do not fix the issues.
