iOS 7 Jailbreak: All the Pieces Coming Together

Published

on

iOS 7 has been available to the public for a couple weeks now, and it’s been in beta for much longer. However, jailbreak developers are still working hard on an iOS 7 jailbreak, but it seems like it’s making smooth progress, according to high-profile jailbreak dev Planetbeing.

On Twitter, Planetbeing confirms that he “may have all the pieces at this point (but not certain yet).” However, he’s “still working hard” on getting the new iOS version jailbroken. He didn’t provide a timeline, though, as far as when we should expect the jailbreak to release, but if it’s anything like the iOS 6 jailbreak, we won’t see it until at least February of next year.

In the past, jailbreak devs have mentioned that the iOS 6 jailbreak was a tough one, and the difficulty level of jailbreaking newer iOS versions has increased more and more, with iOS 7 being no exception. Frankly, we wouldn’t be surprised if we had to wait quite a while for an iOS 7 jailbreak.

Technically, though, iOS 7 has already been jailbreak, but only on the iPhone 4 and it’s a less-desirable tethered jailbreak. Plus, Cydia is missing from it. It’s mainly only useful for developer purposes, and not really meant for everyday users.

There have been many claims of an iOS 7 jailbreak, but they’ve all been fake so far. If there’s one thing you should know when following news on iOS jailbreaks, is that it’s vital to follow only the reputable developers. You may hear that a new developer has discovered an iOS 7 jailbreak, but chances are if you’ve never heard of them, it’s most likely a fake.

While we’re still waiting on an iOS 7 jailbreak, iOS 7 luckily has a lot of new features that make some of the more popular jailbreak obsolete. Control Center, for example, replaces SBSetting’s ability to put quick-access toggles in the drop-down notification view, and the more-recent Auxo app switcher is easily replaced by the new multitasking tray, where you can swipe away apps to quickly close them out.

There are a wealth of other jailbreak tweaks that have been essentially ousted by new features in iOS 7, and you can read about them in our iOS 7 jailbreak feature.
