iOS 7 Problems Mount for iPhone & iPad Users

Published

on

Apple’s new iOS 7 operating system continues to cause problems for owners of the iPhone and iPad with users reporting a host of issues including lag, Wi-Fi trouble and battery drain after installing the brand new update that rolled out in September.

Its been several weeks since Apple not only rolled out iOS 7 but iOS 7.0.2, an incremental update aimed at tackling a security flaw accessed through the lock screen. Rumors suggested that the iOS 7.0.3 update was on the way this week but thus far, iPhone and iPad owners have been left empty-handed, something that has been frustrating for owners of the iPhone and iPad that are dealing with a issues that sprouted up after installing the new software.

iOS 7, Apple’s brand new iOS 7 update, delivered both a new look and new features to users of Apple’s older iPhones and iPads. However, as we have reported, the iOS 7 update has seemingly brought a number of bugs along with it including two major bugs that the company has promised to fix with an update sometime this month.

Here are 25 more hidden iOS 7 features for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

Here are 25 more hidden iOS 7 features for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch.

Apple has pledged to fix the iOS 7 iMessage issues that have plagued iPhone users since the arrivals of iOS 7 and iOS 7.0.2. While there are temporary fixes available, many users have reported that the fixes are unhelpful and that their issues persist. We have encountered the issue on an iPhone 5 and while a fix has quelled the issue for a few days at a time, the inability to send iMessages keeps plaguing the device.

The company has also been tasked with fixing an issue with iPads using supervision profiles. At least one school district has reported that iOS 7 broke supervision profiles in iOS which has prevented teachers from monitoring the use of their students. This problem, like the iMessage issues, is not an isolated issue and is being reported by many iPad users.

There are other major issues too and those problems continue to cause headaches for iPhone and iPad owners, especially because Apple has yet to publicly acknowledge them as issues. Here are three of the major iOS 7 issues that we’ve been hearing about for the past few weeks.

iOS 7 Battery Life

We’ve heard from numerous iPhone owners, iPhone 4s owners in particular, who have experienced terrible battery drain on their device since installing iOS 7. Many of those owners did not have any issues in the initial days after installing the software but have begun to notice the battery drain much later on. We’ve advised them to check out our iOS 7 battery life tips for support, and those have been met with mixed results. Some owners were able to stymie the battery drain, others have continued to see it.

Change wallpaper iOS 7

Unfortunately, this is an issue that sprouts up after every single iOS update and unless Apple can single out a specific issue, like it did with the calendar Exchange bug last year, these issues will persist. From experience, users who perform a hard reset on their device often find success. Users should make a backup before trying this method.

We’ve also seen incremental iOS updates magically fix some battery life problems for users in the past so while an iOS 7.0.3 or iOS 7.1 may not advertised battery drain fixes, it’s possible that they could shore up some of the issues that iPhone owners have been having.

iOS 7 Wi-Fi Issues

We’ve been hearing about iOS 7 Wi-Fi issues ever since the update was released and it appears that those issues continue to affect owners of the iPhone and iPad. The issues, which we’ve outlined at Gotta Be Mobile before, pertain to the Wi-Fi option being grayed out for some users. The issue popped up in iOS 6

AppleInsider reports that the issue seems to be affecting iPhone 4s owners in particular and that it could be related to the iPhone 4s’ Wi-Fi controller or Wi-Fi processes running in the background. The culprit has never been found but it has lead many owners to blame Apple, its hardware and its software. While some owners have had some luck with workarounds and temporary fixes, the issue continues to wage on.

Given that this issue plagued owners in iOS 6, it’s hard to imagine that Apple will roll out a permanent fix, if there is one, in iOS 7. Instead users who are affected by the issue are better off taking the device into an Apple Store. iPhone owners have reportedly been able to exchange their device for a working one after taking it in for a look.

iOS 7 Lag

iPad owners have written in, and we ourselves have been experiencing lag issues on iOS 7 on the iPad 3 and the iPad 2. The issues are found throughout the operating system and can be found when opening up folders, using the new multitasking, or simply scrolling between home screens. It’s a problem that iPad owners have been dealing with since the release of iOS 7.

Better ioS 7 battery life

Apple hasn’t confirmed a fix but we would not be surprised to see an update roll out around the launch of the iPad mini 2 and iPad 5 that helps to soothe these issues. iPad owners will want to remember that the iOS for iPad update was not in the beta process for as long as the iOS 7 update for iPhone. It was also rumored to have more issues than the iPhone’s update. Rumors suggest an iOS 7.1 update could emerge with the iPads and perhaps, the lag issues will be solved when it rolls out.

These are, unfortunately, just the bigger issues that iPhone and iPad owners have encountered. The software also has an assortment of minor bugs that continue to crop up making the need for an iOS 7.0.3 or iOS 7.1 update that much greater.

don’t forget the Music Control in control center dose not work. Many complaints from iphone 4 and 4s owners with ios 7 are unable to control music when the phone is locked. Control center will not work. Please report about it as it needs to get more attention.

Was stunned to read such an iconic product have not fixed such serious issues immediately.
Downloaded two updates about a week apart, think the first one was a bug because now need two passwords to get into a phone which goes flat within a day and will not wifi connect through Iphone

Thank you to all the folk who must install any new iOS as soon as it is released.
I wait until you find all the bugs and download the fully functional version.
To all those who prefer Android I wonder why their lives are still so unhappy that they have to post disparaging words on every Apple news item and forum? I wouldn’t want an Android but I am not wasting my time rubbishing them. I have a life!

I HATE iOs7. It has ruined my iPad. I use my iPad for my business and the battery life is significantly lower, apps randomly close, and the changes to calendar, notes, and tasks are horrible. I rather liked the look of calendar and notes previously. Now everything is stark white, and they didn’t even have the courtesy and foresight to give us an option as to the appearance. I’m not updating 4s and I’m avoiding buying an iPhone 5 anything. Very disappointed in Apple. Steve Jobs is rolling over in his grave. Ugh

    • Larry

      10/11/2013 at 9:57 am

Steve jobs surely would not have all this crap since iPhone 5 last years nightmare now this year was even worse!! Tim crook aka Tim cook should be fired!! Steve would fire him last year 4 sure!! Tim is out for profit not us the consumer!! Our hard earned money for this?? Good thing you did not buy iPhone 5s, my 3GS was better, I return the 5s the same day I got it, it was that bad

I fully agree with you Dena! “Upgrading” (or should I say downgrading?) to IOS7 is probably one of the worst mistakes I have done in my life:-( I am ver disappointed about it and about Apple!

the new update is a downdate! the old system was much better…before downloading the
new business ‘they’ should have said they were changing all the app’s pictures, etc. etc….my
IPad is now much slower, confusing, and definitely battery drain….what kinda junk did they
send us? i cannot open any you tube videos i had saved…and takes forever to send stuff…
what a major screwup….i for one, will not buy into their ‘please download new version’ idea
ever again!! and their so called ‘improvements’ to notes, calendars, etc…is worse…what were they smoking???

I cannot update any of the Apps on my iPad, let alone open the App Store. My iPhone battery drains very quickly as well. I wish I wouldn’t have updated to the new operating system. Both iDevices are bricks.

Why isn’t there any reference to the 5s level issue. My level and compas is off by 3 degrees. It appears I am def not the only one. Some say hardware issue other say it can be fixed with an software update. I know I can drive straight unless I angle my phone.

    Hi

I simply want to insure you that Updating to this version on iPhone 4s is realy problematic.

the problem is that WiFi on/off is unfonctional !!!! (completely bugged)

I tried all procedures given by Apple ===) the problem perssits
Do not forget to say that the Music controller interface is also not working !
    it s realy frustrating !!!!

I am really setup with this, its realy disappointing

my phone has been running lot faster with better battery life since I upgraded. It that some of the icons are cartoony, but performance and usability are off the charts with ios7.

    • Lee

      10/12/2013 at 3:33 am

Hold out as long as you can. And watch out for aggressive update notifications trying to trick you to update..never “update all”. Ios7 is a wreck (on ipad at least, i can vouch). Anyone saying it isn’t either is not a power user or got lucky. My iPad3 performance is down considerably. Lag everywhere & I even did the reset & all the optimizations. If updates do not improve it back to iOS6x levels at least, i have no more business for Apple. This OS is also a visual nightmare…mistakes that first-year graphic design students would know not to make.

Made the biggest mistake of my iPhone days! Should never have downloaded the new software!
Hate the new colors, while background screen while typing and very slow keyboard make texting a pain!!
Thanks for nothing apple! Wish I could oh back to version 6
Hate the new clematis look! Or functions!

  20. iOS 7 Rocks!!!

    10/11/2013 at 7:46 pm

I couldn’t be happier with the new iOS 7. This is a huge upgrade!!! There are so many things that annoyed me in iOS 6 that are fixed in iOS 7. You can’t expect an upgrade as significant as this one with no bugs… For the users complaining on here, I hope you have learned you lesson. Next major update, don’t install until you are certain that all the bugs are worked out of it. Every major release has had bugs in it…

My iPad2 did exactly what your 3 did after downloading iOS7 and using for a few days with constant lags and app crashes. Now it does nothing. Can anyone tell me what the charge cord/arrow/iTunes frozen on the screen means? What to do next? Man, this is pitiful! iOS6 was a breeze.

When I add a Calendar entry and click ‘DONE’ it doesn’t appear until I scroll away and then return. Setting start and ends times, too, is a nightmare; I used to be able to touch any hour or minute digit and it would register immediately, but no longer. And the continuous scrolling required to move from month to month is simply crazy.

Ios7 has caused me to stop using my new ipad. Nothing works.wifi takes forever to connect. Can’t send email. I tried ipad chat but could not send a message to the chat rep. Tried 4 different times. Tried tech support and was told my new ipad was not covered for free support. $600 down the drain. My first and last ipad. My first and last Apple product.

Does anyone know how to delete data so I can clear space? I cannot download “anything” because all my data space is used up. I signed up for the bigger storage plan, and it still won’t let me download anything. I can’t even take a bloody picture because it is full. Yes….I downloaded the ios7 update, and if I can’t fix this….I am throwing it away! grrrrrrrr.

…I can’t connect to Wifi on my iPhone 5 at all. It was working this morning and but it just stopped. Even my Windows 8 computer says my Wifi is limited…Maybe it’s both the update and my Wifi’s been acting up.

Since I installed iOs 7.0.2 my iPad 2 takes a long time to charge and it takes a shorter time to drain the battery.

  30. Dennis

    10/18/2013 at 5:39 pm

IOS7 is a complete and utter mess. It was feebly designed by a bunch of little egos who couldn’t stand anything that Steve created. The only way they could finally get their way was through death. What does that say about who’s running Apple now. Stand by for them to ruin anything they get their hands on. Apple as we knew it is now gone. I will be looking at other alternatives in the very near future. The competition must be doing high fives.

  31. Dennis

    10/18/2013 at 6:37 pm

I’m not sure I could trust an update from these idiots. I would have to wait a long time before attempting it. They must be so proud of their accomplishment. I am going to start looking at other tablets even though I have an iPad 3 which is not that old. I might be able to sell it at a loss. Wow, it sure didn’t take long for things to fall apart after Steve’s demise. What a shame.

My battery drain is so bad that even after turning off the majority of its functions it’s operating like a basic mobile. And still needs recharging 3 times a day on standby. Long gone are the days of using YouTube etc. Give us back IOS 6 & soon please. Also, I think I need to go to Specsavers as half the time I give up trying to read the small print. What’s with the time lapse using the keyboard? This sucks.

  33. Ivan

    10/27/2013 at 4:06 pm

If you downgrade to IOS 7, expect this; significantly quicker battery drain, lag just about everywhere on the ipad, terrible graphics in my opinion…hard to read and not easy on the eyes and generally not user friendly. I really wish that I hadn’t downloaded this on my ipad. Just like Coke Classic was introduced many years ago to fix the “new improved” Coke, hopefully Apple swallows their pride and comes out with an iOS 7 Classic version to replace this horrible OS. Apple, are you listening?

Oh, and by the way, I forgot to mention the wifi problems as well!

First of all, I wish that I didn’t have the need to even access this site. After talking with some family and friends who also own Apple products, they convinced me that I really should update to iOS 7. Well, I suppose its needless to say since I am here on this site that I too am having a big issue with my new iPad since I updated to the new OS a few hours ago. I cant even tell if I am having any of the other issues that people are having as I can’t get passed the start screen where you swipe from left to right to open. As soon as that screen comes on the iPad goes black and then the Apple Logo appears and then the screen goes dark right after a few seconds. I have tried shutting the iPad down as well as doing a hard start but nothing is working? So very frustrating as like most iPad owners I have quite a lot of information on my iPad and now I can’t access it because of a supposedly latest and greatest update, Help! Oh! one more thing… what is with all of the childish bantering going on in the above posts? It is not accomplishing anything that I can see?

A few weeks after installing IOS 7.My ipad mini now can only log on my home WIFI and nowhere else. Spent much time with apple care with no success. Now they are saying I should try reverting to factory settings.
I agree the look of ios7 is hard to see and very bland.
Is there a way to not need to retype my password every time?
All apps are slower -even after updates.Whatever they put in here overloaded their system My ipad is starting to feel like a PC.Sell Apple shares short and buy puts–this company is in decline.

So annoyed since IOS 7 I am unable to open apps I have purchased and some more are disappearing every time a new app update comes through! Also can’t click on some apps in the App Store to purchase. So annoyed!
