iOS 7 Release Date: What Not to Expect

Published

on

The iPhone 5S launch date has been confirmed for September 10th which means that we should also find out what Apple has in store for the iOS 7 release date. Ahead of the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C announcement, it’s time to take a look at what iPhone and iPad owners can expected from Apple’s upcoming iOS 7 release.

Back in June, Apple announced a brand new operating system for the iPhone and iPad dubbed iOS 7 which will be coming to replace the company’s current iOS operating system, iOS 6. iOS 6, which arrived with the iPhone 5 last September delivered new features like Apple Maps, Do Not Disturb and PassBook, but it also kept the familiar iOS design that iPhone and iPad owners have come to know over the years.

iOS 7 however will be vastly different iOS 6, not just in terms of features, but in terms of design as well. iOS 7 is going to arrive with a brand new look thanks to the first major redesign to iOS since the inception of iOS back with the first iPhone.

At WWDC in June, Apple showed off the software’s new look, detailing the new design that will accompany iOS 7 to iPhones and iPads across the globe. It also detailed many of the features that will be coming on board including the new AirDrop, the overhauled camera application that now comes with built-in filters, the new Multitasking that will offer users a new way to view their open applications and a new Notification system. The software will also come with new features for Apple’s personal assistant, Siri.

What Apple didn’t detail however was the iOS 7 release date for iPhone and iPad, choosing to instead offer up a vague fall release that we assumed would be alongside the new iPhone.

We now know when the new iPhone 5S will be announced. And with September 10th likely also serving as a launch pad for iOS 7, we expect to hear all about iOS 7 and its release date as Apple typically divulges that information at its iPhone launch events.

We’ve already taken a deep dive into what iPhone and iPad owners should expect from the iOS 7 release date and now, it’s time to take a look at what not to expect from the iOS 7 release date.

iOS 7 for iPhone Release Outside September

While there is a chance that Apple could run into an unforeseen issue with iOS 7 delaying its release, the fact that it announced an iPhone 5S launch date means that we should see the iPhone 5S arrive in September with iOS 7 on board. Apple typically releases its new iPhones with new iOS software and does so just a few days after launch.

iOS 7 is expected to arrive soon.

iOS 7 is expected to arrive soon.

What this means is that iOS 7 development is likely on track which means that an iOS 7 for iPhone release date outside of September would be nothing short of shocking. Instead, the software will more than likely roll out between September 10th and September 20th.

Rumors have suggested a roll out on September 10th though that isn’t guaranteed. What is all but guaranteed is a roll out for the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 at some point between September 10th and the iPhone 5S release date.

iOS 7 for iPad Release Outside September/October

The iOS 7 for iPad release is a little less clear. For one, we saw the iOS 7 for iPad beta roll out two weeks after the iOS 7 beta for iPhone. This doesn’t confirm a delayed release date but it’s a sign that Apple may need more time to complete the software for arrival. iOS 7 for iPad reportedly is having issues, developers have reported such, and it could be that the iOS 7 for iPad release could be pushed to a date closer to the iPad mini 2 and iPad 5 launch event.

Rumors suggest that the iPad mini and the iPad 5 will be out sometime in October which should mean a release in October if Apple isn’t able to get the iPad update out with the update to its iPhones.

Anything past October would be surprising and uncharacteristic given that Apple historically releases software quickly after a launch date. And if Apple misses September for the iPad iOS 7 update, the company is likely going to be working to get it out as fast as possible.

Don’t expect anything outside September or October at this point, Apple likes to please its customers.

Deviation from the Plan

When Apple announces an iOS 7 release date on September 10th, don’t expect there to be any deviation from the date it puts forth. Android updates are often pushed back or moved, even after they are given official release timing. Apple doesn’t deviate from the plan after it issues a specific release date for its software.

What this means is that the date or dates that are announced at the event for the iPhone and iPad will stick. In fact, we should see Apple announce a very specific time frame for the iOS 7 for iPad update, whether its September or October or something else entirely.

Our new iOS 7 video highlights the new iOS 7 features and we offer a possible iOS 7 release date.

Don’t expect the iOS 7 release date to slip.

Users should also not expect the company to shift from its usual method of releasing iOS software in the morning to early afternoon. Typically, we see updates roll out around 10AM PST and that is what we should see from Apple’s new software.

The only way that doesn’t happen is if Apple releases iOS 7 on the same day of the event in which case we should see the software roll out after the event closes.

Chaos

In year’s past, we would expect chaos from Apple’s iOS 7 release. With the release of iOS 5, we saw the company’s servers melt under the load, hampering the installation experience for many iPhone and iPad users. Errors greeted users for several hours after its arrival and it left many iPhone and iPad users waiting until the next day to install.

We didn’t, however, see chaos with the iOS 6 update as Apple got its act together delivered a seamless release date experience for those looking to get the new software on day one. There were certainly some bad eggs with users installing through iTunes and OTA running into issues but nothing on par with what we saw in the years previous.

The iPad iOS 7 Beta is now available.

We shouldn’t see the same release date chaos that we’ve seen in years past.

We also saw Apple seamlessly deliver iOS 6 updates throughout the year with minimal issues. With that in mind, we don’t expect there to be chaos with the iOS 7 update and instead, we should see an orderly release that certainly will come with some issues, just not widespread ones.

There is definitely cause for concern given that this update is the biggest change to iOS since the inception of iOS but we still don’t expect Apple to foul this up.

Bug Free iOS 7 Experience

That said, don’t expect a bug free iOS 7 experience. People will certainly run into installation issues but more importantly despite the iOS 7 beta period, we should see a number of iOS 7 bugs emerge after its release.

There are always iOS bugs that surface after release, a bug free update is very rare, and we should see bugs emerge with Apple’s iOS 7 update on the first day of availability.

The iOS 7 beta will likely have taken care of the major issues that developers found with the software but don’t expect iOS 7 to be flawless. Apple of course is fantastic at getting issues fixed in a timely manner, at least issues it deems issues, and if there are bugs expect Apple to iron them out in close proximity to the release.

An Easy Upgrade for 16GB iPhone & iPad Owners

The iOS 7 update should be a large one and it will likely need quite a bit of room to install. What this means is that 16GB iPhone and iPad owners are likely going to run into some issues when trying to install the update, specifically, when installing the update Over-the-Air.

When installing Over-the-Air, users will need to free up space on their phone for the software to install, something that many users may not know. And without a large amount of storage on their iPhone or iPad, this is going to be troublesome.

The iOS 7 beta 4 release is here.

We should see 16GB owners run into installation issues.

We don’t expect 16GB iPhone and iPad owners to have an easy upgrade process because of this. There is, however, a remedy in the form of iTunes. While many won’t want to use it, this is a bypass for the storage issues. And while users who are armed with this knowledge will be ready, we still see plenty of iPhone and iPad owners running into difficult come release day.

Most features of iOS 7 have been around on android for years, seems like Apple is just playing catch-up. Too bad people pay to dollar for nothing when they can get so much more and so much better with some excellent android phones such as the galaxy s4.

Paulo, if you like the Galaxy S4 so much, why are you bothering us? If we wanted one, don’t you think we would have bought one?

The important part is not that some of the best new features in iOS aren’t already in (the latest versions) of Android, it’s that Apple is addressing it’s biggest weaknesses vs. Android. Now that those are eliminated it’s strengths are still far better, the smoother UI, Find My iPhone, App/OS updates, security/lack of malware, better, intelligent multitasking that doesn’t kill battery life, full screen Safari browsing, better more consistent user interface implementations. And just as importantly less fragmentation and far higher app sales that makes iOS being the premier mobile development platform with the best apps. And obviously better new things like iBeacons to replace those horrible NFC sensors.

And virtually every iOS user gets all of these benefits, while 90% of Android users are stuck with versions of Android 2 years old that don’t even have a fraction of the features in iOS7, and always will be due to their carriers intransigence. So yea, Android just got shoved farther down in market position, they will continue to win the volume crown by shipping tons of low value, cheap handsets with 2 year old Android versions in developing countries, but iOS 7 pretty much cements iPhone/iPad’s position as the best products at the top of the smartphone/tablet market.

You are absolutely right, which is why i had an android for years. The turning point for me was the fact that the folks at Apple are not innovators, but instead have the common sense to see what the people like, and then make it work! My old android was a ticking time bomb. I know there are exceptions to my statement, but overall ive had minimal issues since converting to Apple. Two years now and i love my Apple products….they could throw the itunes system out the door, but overall extremely pleased with my iphone 5…

PS, i payed way more than “to dollar”, if youve found one for this amount, please let me know :)

Well we can’t expect too much from apple anymore since Job’s is gone… during the time he was around apple can really run in fast phase in which their consumer are really happy. But I still love apple product, i used to have a galaxy tab and yet I switch to iPad mini in which i am more comfortable.

I love all the new features that they are Comin out with. The only thing is, I hope it doesn’t creat a constant lag. I’ve always had that issue with android which is why I prefer the smoother iPhone.

I’m going to the Galaxy S5 whenever it is relaeasd. Had a friend show me all he could do on his galaxy and made my iPhone look like a f*cking clown shoe. Little frustrating to know that iPhones cost show much and they really are not that great unless jailbroken.. I’m tired of that cat and mouse game of firmware patches.

Well, you won’t have to worry about those with Android, for sure. Enjoy.

The first line of this is 100% incorrect. The iPhone 5S is absolutely not confirmed and even if they debut it the phone will not release until at least a week later. Please do your research.

honestly, androids do have more design features but if you’re looking for an easy to use, smooth operating system then the iPhone is it. I mean #teamiphone wasn’t created for nothing.
