iOS 8 Problems Continue as Users Plea for iOS 8.0.1

iOS 8 problems continue to pile up for iPhone and iPad users days after the initial iOS 8 release date causing some to plead for an iOS 8.0.1 update to alleviate their problems.

Last week, Apple released the iOS 8 update for iPhone and iPad, several months after the company released the first iOS 8 beta update. iOS 8, which was first announced at WWDC 2014 in June, arrived alongside the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus at Apple’s special media event on September 9th. There, Apple tagged it with a September 17th release date and last Wednesday, Apple made good on its promise.

iOS 8 for iPhone and iPad was first released around 10AM PST. Almost immediately, iPhone and iPad users around the world started installing its fixes, enhancements and its new features which include changes to iMessage, Photos, the camera application, and more. In all, there are over 100 new features tucked away inside iOS 8.

Update: iOS 8 crashing is frustrating tons of iPhone users.

In addition to these new features, many iPhone and iPad users unfortunately discovered iOS 8 problems lurking inside of Apple’s new update, problems that have, over the past few days begun to pile up. Shortly after the iOS 8 release date, we pointed out a number of iOS 8 problems plaguing iPhone and iPad users. Since then, we’ve heard about and seen numerous other iOS 8 issues that are hampering Apple’s iOS experience.

We’ve discovered a number of problems across several iOS 8 devices including the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5, iPhone 5s, and the iPhone 4s. Several of these issues appear to be fairly common amongst iPhone users. One of the first issues we’ve noticed is keyboard lag. This is most prevalent on the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4s. Taps don’t register as fast as they used to and there is a general sluggishness that’s impacting the keyboard. Our fix from last year doesn’t appear to work this time around either.

The iPhone 5, iPhone 5s and iPhone 4s all occasionally get stuck in landscape when switching from portrait to landscape. This is something that we noticed with the iOS 8 beta ahead of release and it appears that its transferred over to the public iOS 8 release as well. At the moment, we haven’t found a permanent fix to stop the issue once and for all.

We’ve also noticed a ton of app instability after installing iOS 8. Third-party apps including Chrome and Twitter continue to crash for no reason at all. These issues are mostly found on the iPhone 4s though we’ve seen several crashes on the iPhone 5 as well. We’ve also noticed a few hiccups with Chrome’s interface as well.

On the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, we’ve run into unresponsive camera shutter issues and some issues with third-party applications wherein they don’t properly transfer over to landscape mode. Apps like Facebook still only allow iPhone users to shift when turning the phone to the right. It should work both ways.

We’ve also discovered unresponsive home screen issues where the display goes through extended periods of unresponsiveness, crashes in Safari, random screen glitches, and freezes and stalls. Our own Kevin Purcell says that the public iOS 8 update is actually less stable than the iOS 8 beta that Apple released earlier this year.

Apple’s discussion boards are littered with iOS 8 problems that are impacting iPhone users and iPad users alike. We’ve touched on a number of the more common issues, and fixes, though as a refresher, they including general sluggishness and lag, battery life problems, Wi-Fi issues, installation problems, problems with location services, and more.

These iOS 8 problems have caused many iPhone and iPad users to start clamoring for an iOS 8.0.1 bug fix update to help tone down some of the initial iOS 8 problems.

An iOS 8.0.1 update was rumored to be in testing ahead of the iOS 8 release and we can confirm thru site analytics that testing for the iOS 8.0.1 update seems to have ramped up in recent days.

Devices running iOS 8.0.1 have shown up in our logs more and more frequently, a sign that the update could perhaps be closer than some people think.

Apple's iOS 8.0.1 testing continues though a release date is out of reach.

Apple’s iOS 8.0.1 testing continues though a release date is out of reach.

Historically, Apple has released an initial bug fix update just days after the arrival of big time iOS updates so it’s possible that we’ll see one arrive soon. In the meantime, users will have to rely on temporary fixes for iOS 8 problems.

I strongly recommend people that have updated to iOS 8 please try this, it helped tremendous amounts. Go to settings > general > reset and then reset network settings! Then go and reset all settings! This helped with my battery, phone’s performance and faster data connection because for some reason IOS 8 has horrible data issues!

iPhone 6 and Plus… The same phone despite the screen size and camera stabilization. Except that the 6 doesn’t have Landscape View like plus does which is a pain. What is the point of a larger screen if it can’t be used on Landscape like the plus/iPad does. Frequent manual rotation of phone increases potential for accidental drops. Most of all it is just not ergonomic to use the keyboard in standard, upright orientation. Can you say Carpul Tunnel? Landscape View should work not only in Safari and select apps. It should work like it would on an iPad. My first day of owning this phone and I’m already disappointed. I’m already waiting for the Jailbreak. When are they (Apple) going to get it right. One word, Infinidock. Just upgraded from a iPhone 4, iOS 4.0, Jailbroken. And I get this? Need I say more? Lemme guess… iPhone 6s right? Pffff.

Haven’t seen these issues at all. Works great on iPhone 5, slow on iPad, but that is to be expected. Partner has no issues with his sprint iPhone 5 either.

I updated my iPhone 5S 7.1.2 to ios 8.0 about an hour ago. EVERY TIME I GET A TEXT MESSAGE FROM A FRIEND OR TWITTER MY PHONE’S CAMERA FLASHES BUT THE PICTURES ARE NOT IN MY PHONE. WHERE ARE THE PICTURES GOING & WHY IS THIS HAPPENING?!!! I’M LIVID! I’VE RESORTED TO PUTTING A PIECE OF DUCT TAPE OVER THE CAMERA UNTIL I CAN GO TO THE APPLE STORE TOMORROW TO HAVE 7.1.2 PUT BACK ON MY PHONE. MY BATTERY IS DRAINING BY THE MINUTE, APPS KICKS ME BACK TO THE HOME SCREEN WHEN I TRY TO OPEN THEM, PHONE, TEXT’S & EMAILS ARE SLOWWWWW!

PLEASE DON’T UPDATE YOUR PHONE TO THE NEW IOS 8.0 UPDATE IF YOU HAVEN’T DONE SO ALREADY! TRUST ME YOU’LL REGRET IT!! I WAITED UNTIL TODAY TO UPDATE BECAUSE WHEN I TRIED LAST NIGHT THE ESTIMATED WAIT TIME WAS 96 HOURS. FORGIVE ME FOR THE ALL CAPS BUT I’M PISSED!

    My iPad mini has
    1. Lost portrait and landscape capabilities
    2. Turned my screen darker so much it is hard to read in daylight
    3. Freezes for no reason requiring a hard reboot.
4.lost speed on network and LTE
    5. Is basically a piece of crap now.
I can’t believe apple wants to charge to restore 7 back on here. That is greed at its bedt
