iPhone 5 with 4G LTE Could Pack Secret 3G Feature
One of the most anticipated iPhone 5 features is a 4G LTE connection.
The iPhone 5 might be the first iPhone with 4G LTE, and it might bring a new feature to Sprint and Verizon customers. A feature even those with 3G coverage will appreciate.
The ability to talk and surf the web at the same time.
4G LTE is best know for delivering faster upload and download speeds, but these new devices also let users surf the web and talk at the same time.
The iPhone 4S allows AT&T owners to talk and browse the web at the same time, which is the focus of many AT&T commercials. The Verizon and Sprint iPhone 4S models cannot handle browsing and talking at the same time.

A 4G LTE iPhone 5 could pack a 3G secret feature.
All current 4G LTE smartphones on Verizon and Sprint support talking and browsing at the same time. Some new 4G LTE smartphones like the HTC EVO 4G LTE packed a special 3G feature, allowing users to talk and surf at the same time even with 3G coverage. This is especially important for Sprint which has very sparse 4G LTE coverage.
Certain Verizon 4G LTE smartphones can also handle simultaneous voice and data over 3G including the Samsung Galaxy S III and the HTC Thunderbolt. Both of these devices use Qualcomm chipsets. The same company is rumored to be working on a chipset for the iPhone 5 with 4G LTE.
At the very least Sprint shows that this is a possibility and likely a priority while the company expands 4G LTE coverage.
This can’t make up for slower download speeds where Sprint has no 4G LTE coverage, but it is a feature which a surprising number of users demand.

The only way this would be possible is if Verizon and Sprint decide to upgrade their current 3G 1xEVDO networks which they have already stated numerous times is not going to happen as they are pursueing LTE. However, the company is run by humans, not robots, so human nature says we as individuals we can chnage our minds about decisions we have already made. So if Verizon and Sprint changed their minds and have decided to enable that simultanious data and voice feature for 3G they will either upgrade to 1xEVDV Rev. A or 1xEVDO Rev. B. Both support voice and data at the same time, however, the data speeds both of them offer are very different. BTW EVDV meand “Evolution Data and Voice.” 1xEVDV Rev. A will still offer the painfully slow 3.1mbps downstream peak rate and 1.8mbps upstream peak rate. This means no difference in data speeds. 1xEVDO Rev. B offers 14.7mbps downstream peak rate and 4.9mbps upstream peak rate. This option would be a better choice for CDMA carriers as it would make their 3G network more competetive with AT&T and T-Mobile. It would also allow for a better “fallback network” if you were in an area with no 4G coverage. Adding to the pros. on the list, it would also support any 3G device built in 2007 and beyond as most chips in all 3G devices support Rev. B as it is the next step up from Rev. A. EVDV is not supported in hardly any CDMA 3G device. So Rev. B would make the most sense to upgrade to as nearly every 3G device already has the chip required to support it, it makes for a btter fallback network for 4G devices, it opens up a better market for 3G devices to be sold while competing with other networks, and it allows the voice and data at the same time.
