iPhone 5S with Facial Recognition

Facial recognition isn't new to smartphones, in fact Google's Android operating system offers facial recongition unlocks on many phones on the market, but the USPTO granted Apple a patent for a presence and facial recognition for the iPhone.

Apple could bring this patent to life in the iPhone 5S with the potential to turn the Phone on when it detects your presence and then automatically unlock the iPhone 5S with your face. Early face unlock efforts were tricked by photos and videos of the user. It's possible that Apple's implementation could use presence detection, similar to what it already uses to turn the screen off when the iPhone is next to your head, and an enhanced front facing camera to get past this.

Apple purchased Polar Rose in 2010 for $29 million, based on the company's facial recognition technology. The video above highlights how it is able to quickly identify users with a smartphone camera. It's possible that Apple could include some of this technology in the iPhone 5S.

Apple needs to concentrate on screen size to match Samsung and the Galaxy S line. we’re tired of this little phone.

Why doesn’t Apple come out with an update to Passcode lock that doesn’t allow a person to switch the device off while Passcode lock is enabled ?
That way if the device is stolen and you have your mobile data activated, which most of us have, you can still track the device using FindMyiPhone.

That would be a great Security feature !!!
