iPhone 6 Features: New Key Details Emerge

New alleged iPhone 6 details have emerged and they point to four possible iPhone 6 features including a bigger screen, support for mobile payments and more.

As we shift away from WWDC 2014 and towards the rest of the year, we should start hearing more about Apple’s plans for the fall, including plans for a new iPhone release. In fact, we’ve already heard a ton about the company’s rumored iPhone 6, a device that’s expected to replace the iPhone 5s, and deliver a host of new features to entice consumers later this year.

In the buildup to WWDC, iPhone 6 rumors were flying around, detailing everything from its screen to its processor to its supposed release date later this year. And because Apple did not announce the iPhone 6 on stage during its keynote, iPhone 6 rumors are expecting to continue as we push towards the fall.

Today, a report from VenutreBeat points to four possible iPhone 6 features that Apple could have planned for its brand new device. The publication states that these features are currently part of the iPhone 6 design but that the company could potentially alter the device before it lands on shelves later on this year.

This new information points to a big screen iPhone 6, something that we’ve seen rumors throw around time and time again. The design is said to include more screen real estate in the front and thinner bezels, the latter of which would almost certainly help Apple keep the size increase of the iPhone to a minimum.

It also mentions that it will get a new “scratch resistant covering” which is expected to be sapphire. Apple already users sapphire on the iPhone 5s but rumors suggest that the material will play a much bigger role with the iPhone 6.

iPhone 6 rumors have continually pointed to two different iPhone 6 screen sizes, a 4.7-inch display and a 5.5-inch display, though those screen sizes remain unconfirmed. Rumors also point to an increase in resolution with better pixel density, something that would help make the iPhone 6 display sharper and crisper than the Retina Display on the iPhone 5s.

The iPhone 6 may include mobile payments with NFC.

The report also points to support for Near-Field Communication (NFC). The feature was rumored for previous iPhones but we’ve seen a number of leaks, including one from well respected KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, point to an arrival on the iPhone 6. An NFC chip has supposedly been designed for the iPhone 6 and if Apple includes it on the design, it will allow for users to utilize their iPhone like a debit or credit card.

The iPhone 6 is also rumored to include a Category 6 LTE radio for faster LTE data speeds in addition to wireless charging. The shift to a new LTE radio would allow for iPhone users to get 300 mbps. The device supposedly will not come for support for LTE-Advanced. Apple has been known to hold off on new technology, NFC being a prime example, until the company thinks that it’s ready for prime time.

It’s not clear which wireless charging would use though the report says that the “new iPhone 6 design includes a surface under the shell which connects to an inductive charging surface for energy transfer.”

Larger screens, wireless charging and NFC have been available on Android for years and it appears that Apple will be delivering a number of specifications with that in mind.

iPhone-6

Unfortunately, the iPhone 6 and its new features are still weeks away from breaking ground. iPhone 6 release date rumors point to an arrival in September though a specific date still hasn’t leaked to the surface. It’s still not clear if Apple plans to launch and release two iPhone 6 models in September or if the initial launch will provide a single iPhone 6.

The iPhone 6 rumors suggest Apple is working on two new iPhone models for this year, complete with bigger screens, a better camera and a new look. Here is an extensive look at what to expect.

  • iPhone 6 Screen Size – 4.7-inch iPhone and a 5.5-inch iPhone – 1704 x 960 resolution.
  • iPhone 6 Release Date – September for the 4.7-inch, late 2014 for a 5.5-inch iPhone.
  • iPhone 6 Design – A new thinner iPhone 6 design with more metal, power button on the right.
  • iPhone 6 Specs – Apple A8 processor, 1GB RAM, 8MP Camera, Touch ID.
  • iPhone 6 Price – Possible price jump of $50 to $100, Expect a higher price for a 5.5-inch iPhone.
