iPhone 6 Plus: AT&T, T-Mobile & Verizon Remain Elusive

Published

on

It’s hard to find an iPhone 6 Plus in stock and if you are picky about the iPhone 6 carrier you want, you’re in for an even tougher time.

Buyers looking for an AT&T iPhone 6 Plus or a T-Mobile iPhone 6 Plus may need to accept the wait and place an older for delivery in three to four weeks. The search for a Verizon iPhone 6 Plus isn’t much better, but a handful of Apple Stores offer some models in stock.

The easiest to buy is on Sprint. Using the iPhone 6 stock checker from SeaTurtle.org it’s clear that the Sprint iPhone 6 Plus in silver with 64GB of storage is the easiest model to buy now. Nearly 45 Apple Store locations offer this model in stock the last time a user searched for the device.

The T-Mobile and Verizon iPhone 6 Plus models are still hard to find in stock.

Other Sprint iPhone 6 plus models are also easier to find than counterparts on Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile. A total of 20 Apple Stores offer an iPhone 6 Plus on Verizon in some color and storage combination. Three stores offer one AT&T iPhone 6 plus model in stock. The search for a T-Mobile iPhone 6 Plus is even worse with no store listing any in stock as of the last time someone used the tool to search.

iPhone 6 Plus shortages come after a strong opening weekend when Apple sold over 10 million new iPhones. Shoppers still cannot walk into a carrier store to buy the new iPhones.

Apple offers a tool to search for an iPhone 6 in stock at a local store, but if you want an iPhone 6 Plus in stock you are better off using this third-party tool that can search up to 20 stores at once. It found one iPhone 6 Plus in stock near us, but it was a four-hour drive. For some users that is better than waiting a month.

Backorders for the iPhone 6 Plus stretch into November at carriers, but Apple is a little more optimistic with shipping estimates of three to four weeks. Buyers can expect high demand and limited iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus availability for the next several months as Apple struggles to meet the overwhelming demand from early buyers.

When will iPhone 6 & iPhone 6 Plus Shortages End?

In previous years Apple caught up with demand for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s in mid-november, roughly a week before Thanksgiving. This timing also allows for Black Friday iPhone deals.

Last year Black Friday delivered discounts on the new iPhone 5s, so it wouldn’t be a shock to see retailers offer limited Black Friday iPhone 6 deals in the form of gift cards or iTunes gift cards this year. The chance for Black Friday iPhone 6 Plus deals isn’t as high, but it is still a possibility.

Black Friday is the nickname for the day after Thanksgiving, when many retailers open early and slash prices on doorbusters in a kickoff for the holiday shopping season.

Both of the new iPhones feature updated designs as well as larger screens. The iPhone 6 includes a 4.7-inch 1,334 x 750 display and the iPhone 6 Plus a 5.5-inch 1,920 x 1,080 display. The larger iPhone 6 Plus display is the best LCD smartphone display according to DisplayMate.

Apple upgrades the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus cameras with larger pixels, and new technology to focus faster. Both of the new iPhone 6 models are capable of shooting 240 frames per second slow motion video and feature the new iOS 8 time-lapse option. The thicker iPhone 6 Plus includes Optical Image Stabilization, which helps counter camera shake for better looking photos.

Other new features include an Apple A8 processor, M8 co-processor and NFC which enables Apple Pay. In October Apple will upgrade the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus with a new iOS 8 update turning on Apple Pay. Apple Pay adds the ability to pay for things in store with the iPhone 6 as your credit card.

It might also be worthwhile checking iPhoneInventory.com. Instead of just Apple stores they include local and online retailers like BestBuy, Target, Costco and Amazon.
