iPhone 6 Pre-Order offers Release Day Pickup

Published

on

The iPhone 6 pre-order starts online later this week and for the first time you will be able to choose to pick up your new iPhone in the store on the iPhone 6 release date. Previously you couldn’t use personal pickup anywhere close to the new iPhone release date.

It’s not clear if you will need to wait in line with everyone else, but you definitely will be able to make your iPhone 6 pre-order online for delivery or store pickup.

Apple Stores open early on the iPhone 6 release date at 8AM, and will offer help setting up the new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 plus.

This is a new option for the iPhone 6 release. Last year Apple skipped a new iPhone pre-order forcing users to line up for a new device. That decision led to many users choosing a color or storage size they didn’t necessarily want just to get an iPhone on release day.

Tim Cook already expressed his desire to get more users to come to an Apple Store and the iPhone 6 pre-order option is an easy way to convince online shoppers to visit their local Apple Store on the iPhone 6 release.

You don’t need to go to a local store if you want your iPhone 6 pre-order delivered on September 19th. Apple offers free shipping for the iPhone 6 pre-order.

Although Apple only talks about the iPhone 6 pre-order on the iPhone 6 retail store page, the iPhone 6 Plus pre-order arrives at the same time so you’ll want to know what phone you want before the iPhone 6 pre-orders start.

So far Apple only announced the iPhone 6 pre-orders start on September 12th, but you can count on a iPhone 6 pre-order start time of 12:01 AM Pacific, or 3:01 AM Eastern on Friday morning. This means you’ll want to get up very early or stay up late depending where you live.

There is always a chance that Apple will shift the iPhone 6 pre-order start time to a more reasonable 10 AM Pacific /1 PM Eastern on September 12th, but it’s not something you should hold your breathe for.

Depending on how much iPhone 6 stock Apple has on hand popular colors, sizes and carriers may sell out very fast. Apple will continue to take iPhone 6 pre-orders after the initial stock runs out, but you won’t get the device on the iPhone 6 release date of September 19th.

With a week of lead time we hope that the iPhone 6 pre-order for in store pickup offers the same stock options as for home delivery. Many users may prefer to do in store pickup on the iPhone 6 release to avoid waiting for the Fedex or UPS delivery to arrive at home or signing a note for the delivery man to leave the new iPhone sitting on a porch all day.

Apple warns that if you skip the iPhone 6 pre-order to go line up you may run into shortages. Their iPhone 6 retail page cautions, “Supplies may be limited and are available on a first-come, first-served basis.” This is not a change from any new iPhone release.

We expect to see iPhone 6 pre-orders from carriers at the same time Apple Starts, but you will likely need to choose delivery if you want to opt for an Verizon iPhone 6 pre-order or an AT&T iPhone 6 Plus pre-order.

The iPhone 6 price is the same online and in store as well as across carriers, but  there is already a free iPhone 6 deal on Verizon if you trade in your old iPhone. The iPhone 6 price list below lets you know what you’ll spend for the new iPhone at Apple and carriers.

  • iPhone 6 16GB – $199
  • iPhone 6 64GB – $299
  • iPhone 6 128GB – $399
  • iPhone 6  Plus 16GB – $299
  • iPhone 6 Plus 64GB – $399

    Not true.

The 3GS had the same preorder choice – pickup in store or delivery.

I got 2 of them from my local store this way.
