iPhone 6 Release Pegged for Fall, Again

Published

The iPhone 6 release is reportedly set for the third quarter according to a new iPhone 6 rumor that claims Apple will rely on Samsung for a key iPhone 6 component, despite attempts to switch away from the large competitor.

This is the most recent report that points to a fall iPhone 6 release date, based on an industry official.

A report from earlier this month claimed Apple was planning to shift production of one of the most important iPhone 6 parts to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) after years of working with Samsung, but a new report claims Samsung is not quite out of the picture.

The iPhone 6 release date may come in the fall based on a new earnings report.

The iPhone 6 release date may come in the fall based on a new report.

According to the latest iPhone 6 rumor from ZDNet Korea Apple will use both TSMC and Samsung to manufacture the new Apple A8 processor. The new chip will reportedly power the iPhone 6 and will enable new iPhone features and iOS 8 features. At the end of the report an Industry official tells the publication that the iPhone 6 is scheduled for the third quarter.

The third quarter discussed here is not Apple’s third quarter but the calendar quarter which runs July through September. A previous report from an Apple partner in charge of Sapphire production indicates that the company will experience profitability in the third quarter, hinting at a fall iPhone 6 release.

While initial reports of the iPhone 6 release suggested a possible summer launch near Apple’s annual software developer conference WWDC, these new leaks make a fall release more likely. The iPhone 4s, iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s release dates took place in the fall, with the last two releases coming in the month of September.

These new iPhone 6 rumors share release window details, but focus on a new Apple A8 processor. At the heart of a new iPhone for 2014 is a new processor that builds on the Apple A7 64-bit processor found in the iPhone 5s. This processor is what enables the iPhone features that consumers love like slow-motion video, burst mode and graphically rich games. While most iPhone users don’t care too much about the iPhone 6 specs, it is very likely that they care about the iPhone 6 features that a new and improved Apple A8 processor could deliver.

We don’t know a lot about the potential iPhone 6 features that this new Apple A8 processor might deliver, but we could get a better idea when Apple talks about the next version of the software that powers the iPhone and iPad. We expect to see Apple reveal this new version which could carry the iOS 8 name at WWDC 2014. There is no WWDC 2014 date yet, but the event typically takes place in June.

Rumors point to two iPhone 6 models with larger screens in 2014. One of the new models may feature a 4.7-inch display and the other a 5 to 5.5-inch display. Apple is reportedly improving the camera, but it is not clear if we will see an 8MP sensor with better quality or if we’ll see a higher MP sensor.

You are comparing an operating system to a complete product. You make no sense at all.

    I want a 6″ phone…. will settle for 5.7 inch…
But at 5.5, Apple will fall short again.

Yep by the time apple comes out with the over due demand of the bigger screen, Samsung would have already saturated the market. Much smarter they listen to the.consumer and react quickly. Apple is relying on their long gone popular name thinking that people will wait forever for a bigger screen. Too late people already went out a d bought a galaxy and used up their upgrades. Steve Jobs is gone ! And it’s all over Apple. !!
