iPods to Join iPhone 5 Party on September 12

Come September 12 when Apple announces the iPhone 5, the company may also refresh its line of iPod music players. There are still very few details about which iPod models will get refreshed or newly introduced right now. However, it is believed that Apple will either update or refresh at least two iPod series at this time.

According to a report on 9to5 Mac, the new iPod lines will come in multiple colors and will come in two storage capacities. A third line may be introduced with a single storage capacity. Likely, the models that will be introduced or refreshed will be part of the iPod Nano and the iPod Shuffle lines. It’s unclear if Apple will also be refreshing the iPod Touch at the same event.

If an iPod Touch refresh does occur, it may be pushed back to a later October event where Apple is now rumored to be introducing a 7.85-inch iPad Mini tablet, which is said to be based off of the iPod Touch’s design.

There is also speculation that Apple may be introducing a smaller iPod Touch form factor–perhaps an iPod Touch Nano or iPod Touch Mini–with a smaller display and a home button located just below the display similar to today’s iPod Touch and iPhone design.

The information here is still speculative, and we’ll find out soon enough next week what Apple’s plans are for its mobile products.
