Is Your Motorola Droid Bionic Suffering from Radio Issues?

Published

on

It appears that a small number of Motorola Droid Bionic owners are suffering from a radio issue where the device is constantly switching from 3G to 4G LTE service to no service whatsoever. Kellex over at Droid-Life is saying that the issue limited his Droid Bionic to six hours of battery life and made him constantly switch over to Airplane mode in an effort to get the signal back.

Apparently, he is not the only person suffering from this issue. Although it appears to be a small number of people dealing with this problem and those of you that are seeing it should probably consider a replacement phone.

Droid Bionic

For the record, our review unit did not experience the radio issues whatsoever and Kellex is saying that he got his hands on another Droid Bionic that is not affected by the issue.

So, we want to ask.

Is anyone out there in Droid Bionic seeing this issue or something like it? How about anything else? So far, it seems like the Droid Bionic has far less issues than its 4G LTE counterpart, the HTC ThunderBolt.

I had this radio issue with my first bionic, plus a few others as well.  one other issue was when I had the bionic docked and charging, If i were to text or browse the internet, the keyboard function was very screwy when docked. When I typed the touch screen would begin to start adding other letters to my typing.  Also, my wifi signal was always turning on and off, providing a horrible experience.

My replacement phone is much better and is only experiencing the radio issue.  I did my own playing around with the phone and discovered that if I go into the phones setting and turn off the CDMA/LTE network and turning on the CDMA only network… The phone worked perfect. So I basically had and much improved Motorola X2… Dual core and 3G…

I live in Phoenix AZ and should great 4g service, but I have not yet experienced it with either of my Bionics.  I plan on sticking with the Bionic, but will likely replace this one for my third device.

Hello Jasper are you replacing the Bionic in the store? if so what if any issues did you run into. I was told, here in Lakeland, FL that the issue was software and they EXPECT a update in November to correct the issue, so who’s going to pay for 30+ a month for data service that we can’t use for 2 months. I’m really pissed with the store, S Florida Verizon Wireless store two particular employees, Joshua Baily and Laura the store manager…..can someone from Verizon tell me what’s going on? I will post my issue on every webpage and blog until this issue is corrected and or i get a apology from that store.

I so agree, Verizon and Motorola suck, if I could get out of my contract I would , have had terrible service, and paid $300 for a phone I have to take the battery out 3-4 times a day to get reconnected to data, second phone is as bad as the first, DO NOT BUY FROM VERIZON, they won’t help when your phone is crap.

I bought Bionic from Letstalk.com “Will never buy from them again”, I
have been having same problem for about a month….after waiting so long
for this phone it is a piece of junk….the radio for network
connectivity is really bad, the camera results are the worst I have ever
seen from a phone camera…my iphone 3g was way better.  I really hope
Motorola is aware of this and is doing something about it.

yep, gonna try and trade out my Bionic entirely, for a different model tomorrow. I’ve been dealing with this issue since day one, and it actually seems to be getting worse. My phone pretty much never connects to ANY data network, save for WiFi, anymore.

I will never make a single purchase from Motorola EVER again. No internet connectivity, EVER. Constantly switching between 3G and 4G. Verizon technicians offer no useful advice besides power the device off and back on. The device constantly freezes and I have to pull the battery. Also have to pull the battery to get the screen to respond to touch at times.  The speaker will play audio with a static noise – as if underwater and then after a reboot, goes back to normal audio.  The camera is the worst I’ve ever seen – can not focus and I can’t even enjoy taking pictures because of the hassle. I am going to have to purchase an iPhone at full retail price because Verizon refuses to exchange this phone. I will not be stuck with this BIONIC POS for the next 23 months. Motorola you really ruined your reputation with this one. I am spreading the word like wildfire!!!!

My words exactly, people read and listen, to not buy this phone and rethink network, they won’t stand behind the phones they sell.

I have had the bionic pretty much since launch and this issue is by far my only complaint, but it makes my phone unusable. Unless this gets fixed soon I am swearing off of Motorola. The razr (my regrets for not waiting for that) seems to work fine, but the Bionic will not get 4g in my area. If it was only that I could live, but the fact I get NO service whenever it feels like turning off is a pain. What good is paying for a data plan when I only get data maybe 30% of the time??

Signal changes color from blue to white and network is lost several times a day sometimes I need fo reboot phone. When white I lose calls , internet , even if its white 3g full signal . Very dissapointing for the price.

I bought the Bionic when it first came out and have had nothing but trouble since. Two days ago I went back to the store here in WA and they finally agreed to give me a totally new phone on thee spot. No radio issues thus far. However it still bounces between 3 and 4 g. I also agree that had I known Motorola was coming out with the Razor so soon after the Bionic I would have waited. If I have any further rpoblems with this model one of the employees suggested that I call Verizon and complain enough and they will let me upgrade. I agree that Motorola is doing themselves a lot of marketing damage with this model. As for the service we are paying for and not getting…may I suggest a class action suite.
