Jawbone Has Unpublished Fix for iPhone ERA Woes

Published

on

Last week I posted about the difficulties I was having with the Jawbone ICON and ERA Bluetooth headsets. After posting that I got an email from a Jawbone tech offering to help. We had a good conversation and he offered me a solution that solved the connection woes. (To see the problems I was having check out this post.)

The fix is actually a simple one and I’m a bit confounded, but not entirely surprised, that it isn’t published on Jawbone’s site and I don’t believe I’ve seen it in their user forums to date. Essentially you unpair the headset, then go to Settings on our iPhone. Scroll down to the bottom of the settings page and select Reset. From there you select the Reset Network Settings button. Choose to reset your networks. You’ll loose any passwords and reset your Network settings back to factory defaults. Once you do this your phone will reboot. You then pair up the headset. I followed the steps and have been using the ERA headset for a few days and the connectivity issues seem to have disappeared.

Note that in the previous post I was concerned that the outdoor temperature was affecting the connection in cold weather and was perplexed that I experienced the same thing in warmer weather and in heavy winds. (We’ve had some pretty high winds of late.) According to the tech rep the temperature operating guidelines only are there as a guide to battery life and don’t affect connectivity at all.

I’m grateful for the help and personal support, but like I said I’m confounded a bit as to why this isn’t published. I asked the rep if it was and he said no. I asked why not and is answer was that this was an Apple iOS issue and not a Jawbone issue. Perhaps that’s the case, but you’d think regardless of who is actually at fault here that Jawbone would want its customers to know how to straighten things out. And putting up a fix on its website or in its forums has certainly got to be cheaper than dealing with tech support one on one by reaching out to customers who just happen to blog about issues, or handling them when they call in to report a problem.

People, it is not the Jawbone ear-piece, but the iphone that is the problem.  Something that is likely due to software glitches on the phone that requires an over the top strength signal to recognize reception.

Thanks for the fix! I’ll have to wait and see if it’s comes back, but after an hour straight of listening to music, it works great. My old jawbone was lost, but I seem to remember a firmware update through the MyTalk.Jawbone.com site. I know my last Era did NOT have the issue that I have been having for the past 2 days for this one. I’m running the new Mountain Lion beta, so I can’t run MyTalk discovery on it just yet to check it. But the above fix, plus the firmware update may have been what fixed my last Era.

This is still an issue with the Era and iPhone 4 with iOS 5.1.1(9B206). I’ve had two Icons and had no issues with either, other than losing both of them. Call clarity and battery life were both good. I bought the Era a couple of weeks ago and it’s been a disappointment since day one. Poor battery life and frequent connection issues. I’ve had many complaints that people can’t hear me or that there’s a lot of static or the bluetooth connection to the phone drops in the middle of a call when the phone is two feet away in direct line of sight. Already updated to the latest Era firmware, but that doesn’t seem to have helped. If this fix doesn’t work, I’m just going to return the Era and buy another Icon online.

This is amazing! I changed two times Jawbone Era by now and third time it was again bad luck until I found this solution. So far works great but I’m very concerned about comments of other users who say the problems will come back. I too have iPhone 4 with iOS 5.1.1.
Does the problem persists with 4s model or it’s exclusive to 4?
    Thank you Warner

    Jawbone is Gaming us all.
My ERA was fine for 6mo’s, (era was my 7th Jawbone, starting w/#1 version) then 1 day other party has hard time hearing me, making unit completely unusable.
$130 and its Disposable! No wonder they need 2nd round of Venture Capital!
They also have No Repair Dept, but instead, sell our returned, non-working units to 3rd party, unauthorized vendors, who in turn claim to be Authorized and get to use Jawbone’s Logo’s etc.
When you buy, your “new” unit it immediately does not work. Send it back, get no credit, no refund, no replacement. Complain and they take another chapter out of Jawbone’s operating manual, cuz they just wait you out, till you give up!
Call Jawbone, about this “rogue” secondary dealer network, and they do not respond. They just tell you that you should not of bought from a Non-Authorized merchant!! WTF?? You mean, they will not stop Merchants from using the Jawbone Logo or claiming to be an Authorized Dealer, but when we buy Jawbones’ broken, returned items from these rouge dealers, then Jawbone completes the scam by offering no Customer Service, No Repair (don’t have 1, remember?), no help whatsoever. And this is where all the broken Jawbone headsets go! Dealers are protected by Jawbone, and Jawbone makes some extra money for all that defective product that gets returned.
Total Scam, that I hope the Investors discover before they fund this totally crappy company any further. Another Facebook flop in the making.

We have the same problem with the Jawbone Era and the problem its not the phone or software. We try some iPhones and Galaxy s 5 and the problems still happen. We make all update and nothing work. They change me the headset 4 time for the same problem up to a year warranty after that we have a over a $100 dollar headset near to the trash can. Jawbone Era its not a good headset. My son and his wife have a Plantronic M155 over a year and no have any single problem. Also we talk with a Jawbone customer service and he said me a lots of Jawbone Era make this problem. Maybe you see a lots of Jawbone Era headset on sale online buy “REFURBISHED” with only 30 days warranty :-(

It’s JAWBONEs fault. They failed to QA (test) their product functionality with the #1 selling phone on the market? That is a huge error in the development process by Jawbone. Sorry, but stupid is as stupid does, and there is no excuse for that oversight. Mine is going back to the store.
