Kindle Fire HDX 7 Arrives to Battle the iPad Mini 2

With the Apple iPad Mini 2 event just days away, Amazon has announced this afternoon that its new Kindle Fire HDX 7-inch Android tablet is available right now. Starting at $229 the new Kindle tablet aims to take on both the upcoming iPad Mini 2, as well as Google’s own Nexus 7.

Last month Amazon announced the new Kindle HDX tablet lineup which offers a full 1080p HD tablet that has been completely redesigned from years past. Starting at $229 the new HDX 7 is targeting the Nexus 7 more than the iPad Mini 2, but we’ll have to see Apple’s pricing before we speculate. Read on for more details on the now available Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7.

With a 1920 X 1200 resolution Amazon’s new Kindle Fire HDX 7 is quite the tablet. Coming with Qualcomm’s latest quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, as well as a new screen technology that claims to be easier on the eyes, and battery. The $229 starting price will deliver a 16GB WiFi tablet, then the pricing goes up from there with both a 32GB and 64GB option from Amazon.

Oh and we can’t forget about ads. How else do you think they have such a low price? To remove the on-device and start screen ads on the new Kindle Fire HDX you’re looking at a starting price of $244, and up from there.

The 16GB 4G LTE model will run $329, which is a bit cheaper than the $349 Nexus 7 from Google, and will probably be much cheaper than what we’re expecting to be a pricy iPad Mini 2 LTE. However, the 4G LTE Kindle won’t ship until November 14th, which means they’ll be directly competing with Apple’s latest by that point.

One important and impressive new feature of the Kindle HDX lineup is Mayday, a 24/7 live video tech support option for all Kindle Fire HDX owners, which should really help those on Christmas morning opening the tablet for the first time. And yes, Amazon confirms they’ll have thousands of staff on-hand for the holidays. The new Kindle is selling fast, and the 64GB option might be the only one left.

Apple iPad mini 2 may face big challenge as the new kindle table will be available before it released. We know ipad have a good reputation, but customers who want reasonable pricy table will choose kindle fire hdx

I got the HDX and it is nice but no comparison to iPad Mini. Many apps I had from Kindle Fire HD will not work on HDX. I was especially upset that no WSJ app available for HDX.
