Lenovo ThinkPad Twist Convertible for SMB Announced

Published

on

Lenovo unveiled the ThinkPad Twist, a convertible notebook for small businesses, at an event in New York this evening. The convertible notebook PC meets Ultrabook standards and offers the flexibility of keyboard and tablet computing in a single device.

The ThinkPad Twist features a single hinge that rotates and folds the display’s back onto the keyboard for tablet mode, just like we expect from traditional Tablet PCs, such as Lenovo’s ThinkPad X-series tablets. While the design works, it’s a bit tired and one that Lenovo appears to be moving away from as evidenced by the IdeaPad Yoga 11 and Yoga 13.

Weighing in at 3.48 pounds, the ThinkPad Twist is reasonably light for a 12.5″ notebook and measures 20mm thick. The display is nice and bright (350 nit) and is protected by anti-smudge coated Gorilla Glass.

The ThinkPad Twist can be configured with either a 320GB or 500GB hard drive or 128GB SSD. The SSD is the way to go for optimum performance. The computer accommodates up to 8GB of memory. Lenovo will offer a range of processor options with the ThinkPad Twist, ranging up to Intel’s Core i7 series.

The convertible notebook has plenty of ports including  a memory card slot, dual USB 3.0 ports, mini-HDMI, mini-DisplayPort and Ethernet. Dolby Home Theater 4, dual microphones and a 720p camera are a few of the creature comforts that come standard.

Lenovo’s small business computers come with Lenovo Solution Center for Small Business and Trusted Platform Module.

The Lenovo ThinkPad Twist starts at $849 and will be available once Microsoft gets around to releasing Windows 8 on October 26.

1366×768 display. No stylus support. Hardly deserving of the ThinkPad moniker.
