LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition Arrives to Challenge Nexus 7

This morning we reported on some exciting news that Google was preparing to offer Google Edition tablets on the Play Store running stock Android, just like they did earlier this year with the Galaxy S4 and HTC One, and it’s now official.

LG and Google just announced the LG G Pad 8.3-inch flagship tablet as the first Google edition tablet ever, and it’s available right this minute on Google Play. Offering an awesome all-around tablet with stock Android instead of having a manufacturer skin covering Android, starting at only $349. That’s more than the Nexus 7, but read on for more details regarding what to expect from the new G Pad Google Edition.

Android is covered with 3rd party skins from many manufacturers like LG and Samsung, and as a result the experience isn’t the same, not to mention updates are slow. The LG G Pad is a prime example, still being on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, but starting today users can get that awesome tablet running the absolute latest version of Android.

We’ve been waiting for another Android tablet to become available, and many thought it would be a Nexus 8 or 10, but instead Google’s going to deliver the stock Android experience to devices already available. The fantastic LG G Pad 8.3 tablet will be the first of probably many. Offering a 1920 x 1080p full HD IPS display coming in at 8.3-inches, not too small but not too big, a 1.7 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor and 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and the biggest factor over the Nexus 7 is the G Pad has a micro-SD slot. Then we have a 5 megapixel rear camera, Infrared to use as a remote control, and now it’ll be offered with stock Android as a Google edition tablet.

LG has partnered with Google on the Nexus 4 smartphone last year, the new flagship Nexus 5 this year, and now the first Google edition tablet ever released. It isn’t as cheap as the Nexus 7, but you’ll be able to get the awesome tablet explained and shown off in the link above right now from Google Play for $349, the same price as the standard version in-stores now. Oh, and Google’s offering free shipping.

We have a feeling more Google edition tablets are on the way, and we’ll report back the moment we have more details. Get the new G Pad 8.3 Google Play edition right here.
