LG Nexus 4 Release Date: What Not to Expect

Published

on

On October 29th, Google will be hosting what is shaping up to be a massive launch event. One of the products that is rumored to be launching that day is the new Nexus phone, which all signs point to being the LG Nexus 4. And while we know a lot about the phone, we only have bits and pieces about its release date. Here now, is what we expect to take place in regards to the LG Nexus 4 release date.

In New York City, on October 29th, Google will take the stage for an event that might just blow Google I/O out of the water, at least in the eyes of consumers. There, the company is expected to announce at least five new products including a new Nexus 10 tablet, two new version of the Nexus 7 tablet including a 32GB model and 3G model, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, and the LG Nexus 4 smartphone.

The LG Nexus 4 appears set to have a massive 4.7-inch HD display, quad-core processor, two good cameras, a design similar to the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and of course, Android 4.2 – a new version of Android that will be released not only on the Nexus 4 but the Nexus 10 as well. At least at the start.

And while Google hasn’t done a good job of hiding the Nexus 4, it has been able to keep some of its release details hidden. There have been some cracks though and from those and some of Google’s past launches, we made some predictions about what to expect from the LG Nexus 4 release date.

Here, we delve into what consumers shouldn’t expect from the LG Nexus 4 release date.

Release Date Beyond October

Google hasn’t said anything official yet but at this point, we don’t expect the release of the LG Nexus 4 to fall outside of the month of October. Leaks suggest that the phone may start shipping on October 30th and that could mean that Google and various retailer could start taking orders on the day of the announcement for a same day or next day release.

Anything beyond October, at least for an unlocked HSPA+ version of the phone would be surprising at this point given that the phone has leaked out over, and over, and over again and that it’s clear that retailers are prepping for its arrival.

A Sell Out

Don’t expect a sell out. Yes, Nexus phones are great but there are already some fantastic phones on the market that have likely gobbled up vast amounts of consumers looking for a new phone.

From the Galaxy S III to the Galaxy Note 2 to the Droid RAZR MAXX HD to others, there is and has been a variety of fantastic Android phones on the market this year, devices that will and have pulled consumers away from this year’s Nexus.

Also, the Nexus 4 looks like it will have 8GB and 16GB storage options. If that’s true, that will be enough to turn people away right from the start.

4G LTE Models

At this point, while it’s looking like 4G LTE are a possibility, we don’t expect them to arrive on the first release date for the LG Nexus 4. Remember, we heard that French carrier SFR might not be getting the device until December so it’s entirely possible that the 4G LTE models will be launched that month.

Google might surprise, but at this point, we’d temper those expectations. Remember, the Galaxy Nexus was announced in October last year and it didn’t arrive on Verizon until December.

Carriers Other Than AT&T and T-Mobile at First

We fully expect a HSPA+ unlocked version to arrive soon after the launch and if it does, we expect it to run on both AT&T and T-Mobile, just like earlier versions of the Nexus. At the start, we expect that this will be the only way those in the U.S. will be able to run the Nexus. We don’t expect those who want to run it on a 4G LTE carrier to have that opportunity right off the bat.

The 4G LTE networks of Sprint and Verizon are definitely possibilities but we doubt we see them get the device in October.

Those who are looking to pick up the device on release date shouldn’t expect there to be a lack of accessories. There will likely be an ample amount of cases, if the Nexus 7 is any indication and it looks like Google may have some other tricks up its sleeve.

It appears as though the Nexus 4 will feature wireless charging as a Nexus Q-inspired LG Nexus 4 wireless charging pad was seemingly revealed earlier today and if it’s real, it could be announced and released alongside the Nexus 4.

At the very least, expect accessories for the LG Nexus 4 right off the bat.

I just noticed something in that picture. It said Android 4.2 “Jelly Bean”. Does that sound a little weird to you?
