LG Optimus 2X Ice Cream Sandwich Update Still in the Works

Published

on

It looks like the LG Optimus 2X Ice Cream Sandwich update, which was on the verge of death, is now officially back on after LG itself again confirmed the update.

Phandroid is saying that LG’s main Korean office has told them that the LG Optimus 2X will, in fact, get the upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Originally, LG promised Android 4.0 for the aging smartphone, something that was music to the ears of owners.

However, at the end of July, LG Canada decided to add a little mystery to LG’s plans by saying that the device, at least in Canada, would not be seeing the software.

The LG Optimus 2X will still get ICS it seems.

LG says that the ICS update for the Optimus 2X is in its testing phase with the company saying that it still plans to release the update to owners. Still, it’s possible that LG might not roll out the update to select regions, Canada included. And while that mystery remains, it also means that owners of the T-Mobile G2X will have to wait for word as well.

As of yet, T-Mobile has remained mum about the prospects of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich for its version of the Optimus 2X. And that being said, it’s possible that the carrier will keep the device on Android 2.3 Gingerbread, despite what LG is saying about the update.

The fact that LG is still testing the update though provides a little hope for those still holding on to the Optimus 2X and the T-Mobile G2X. Hopefully, LG will announce which regions will get the update and with any luck, it will include all regions where the device is available.

Unfortunately, the fact that it’s in a testing phase sheds no light on when it might be released to the public and that means that it could roll out months from now.

Those odds are, at least, better than no odds at all.

I called LG and they told me the G2x will not be getting any upgrades past gingerbread. They told me repeatedly that they had no idea of any issues with this phone and its the best phone ever. They also said that if I wanted to fix this phone then buying their new phone would be the fix to the g2x problems. Hahaha. Roflmfao. LG can kiss me where the sun don’t shine. What audacity those “F”ers have. Don’t count on it you LG Aholes. I will never buy another product from you thieves.

Steve, I agree with you completely. My Xmas shopping plans have changed because of LG’s lack of support for their products. No new LG TV and no new LG phone for my wife this Xmas. I am not buying anymore LG products until my G2X OS is upgraded. ummm I guess that means no more LG in this life. Be sure to till other people of LG’s lack of support.

I agree. It is a mistake for any company to release a product without the basic support that you would find for similar products. LG is finished in my future purchases. No new LG purchases at all.
