Linda Epstein: Why a $500 Price Tag for UMPC Isn’t Realistic

Published

on

Linda Epstein of TabletPC2.com has penned a very interesting article about UMPC price points. As the grumbles about the high cost of the early UMPCs are still quite loud, this is well worth a read. She lays out arguments as to why the $500 target is unrealistic, and why UMPCs are worth the investment at the current price comparatively speaking. Linda provides some hard cost data (which is very informative) and compares what’s under the hood of a UMPC with your typical bargain laptop. Her points illustrate the apple and orange nature of the comparsions quite well. If nothing else, the article points up how careful the expectation games needs to be managed when it comes to new releases.
