LogMeIn No Longer Has a Free Option

Published

on

Talk about short notice. As of today, customers of popular remote software LogMeIn who used the free option will find that they have seven days to upgrade to a paid option or find another remote product. That seven days begins after your next log in. LogMeIn has had both free and paid plans and as of today, the free option is no longer available. Existing LogMeIn Ignition customers for iOS and Android will find discounts available for their upgrade path. Those using LogMeIn Central and the free editions of Cubby and join.me are currently unaffected. LogMeIn Pro accounts (which is what you’ll need to move to) start as low as $49 per year with discounts, but normally run $99 per year.

Here’s an excerpt from the LogMeIn blog explaining their rationale:

Starting in January, we will gradually migrate users of LogMeIn-branded remote access offerings andIgnition-branded remote access offerings to a single, premium access product. Please note that once you log into your account there is a seven day window to upgrade. Subscriptions will include LogMeIn’s signature remote access to two or more computers, premium mobile apps for Android and iOS, and native Mac and Windows desktop apps.  Additionally, all users who purchase a subscription to LogMeIn Pro will be upgraded to a premium remote access experience, with capabilities that include integration with popular cloud sync and share products like Cubby, Dropbox, Box, Google Drive and SkyDrive, the ability to manage and transfer cloud and local files, remote printing and more.

If you’re looking for some alternatives here is a list of remote and VLC options that work quite well:

  • TeamViewer with versions for Windows, Mac, Linux, and Mobile.
  • PocketCloud with versions for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android.
  • Screens 3.1 from Edovia versions for Windows, Mac, Linux, and iOS.

There are also many others to choose from.

Techinline is a nice alternative to LogMeIn; I’ve been using it for years without any problems. Hope this helps!

Yeah, it is really sad news that Logmein free is going away. I used to be a huge fan of Logmein; but as free version is going away, I have discovered an alternative to Logmein: RHUB`s remote support servers. It provides better security and is easy to use as well.

That’s really nice… BUT all you need for remote desktop is AEROADMIN
Free and easy app. By the way – free for commercial use as well.
