Test All the New Catch Options

In Madden 16 you can choose from three types of catches based on ball position and what you need out of the play. After you throw the ball you will press a button to choose the type of catch you make. Use this practice to learn how each one handles and when to rely on the new catches.

Aggressive Catch - When you press Y or Triangle you will go high, go big and put it all on the line to catch the ball. This is an essential tool, but if you do this you might end up out-of-bounds or you might end up falling to the ground when you could have pulled out some extra yards.

Run After Catch - Press X or Square to pull off a Run After Catch or RAC style catch. This will set your player up to run for the extra yards that will get you a first down or a score. This is one that we go for most often, as we love the short pass, but need to tack on some extra yards. There is no guarantee of more yards, but the set up will put your receiver in position to turn upfield better.

Possession Catch - Press A or X (PS4) when you need to make sure that you catch the ball, without dropping it or going out-of-bounds. This isn't a guaranteed catch, but you have a better chance of hanging on and making sure you stay in-bounds than if you go for RAC or Aggressive.

Skills Trainer allows you to practice these, but we found that playing three games is the best way to learn how these work best. Give it a try to see which fit your play style best.
