Mango Delivers Faster Web Browsing for Windows Phone 7

Published

Microsoft has announced that a major update to its Windows Phone 7 mobile platform codenamed Mango will be arriving this Fall, and that firmware will bring not only better overall performance, but faster browsing speeds. News of the Mango update comes out of the Microsoft-hosted MIX11 conference in Las Vegas, NV.

Mango will bring hardware acceleration to improve browsing speeds on the Internet Explorer 9-based browser on the smartphone to deliver faster HTML5 speeds when compared to rivals on Android and iOS.

You can see the demo from the video posted below:

Mango will also bring a number of optimizations and improvements, including deeper integration of apps into Live Tiles on the home screen and better multitasking support for third-party apps. Developers will also be able to now access more of the phone’s features, including the accelerometer and camera, to create apps that integrate these hardware features.

Additionally, Microsoft is also hosting a special competition right now for its Fan Brandon Foy. If Brandon’s YouTube video–posted below–gets over 200,000 views, Microsoft will use it in a future TV ad campaign for Windows Phone 7.

We’ll have to see if Microsoft can keep their promise of the above promo videos in daily life. In daily life it is more interesting to see realtime ready loading of pages than improved rendering speed of moving objects. Again unfortunate that no inking items are mentioned.
