Mango Update to Bring 4G Windows Phone 7 Devices

Published

on

With the newly announced Mango software update for Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 platform, device-makers are able to take Windows Phone to the next level of mobile broadband connectivity by bringing 4G to devices. Current Windows Phone devices only top out at 3G, connecting either to the GSM-based HSPA/UMTS standard or the CDMA EV-DO standard. 4G, which is being promoted in the U.S. under differing and rival HSPA+, WiMax, and LTE technologies, promises mobile broadband speeds up to ten times faster than traditional 3G.

Details were not available regarding which form(s) of 4G technologies would be supported on the Windows Phone 7 Mango update, but the inclusion of 4G support should help Microsoft stay competitive with Android smartphones, which are now available in 4G on all three 4G standards employed by carriers in the U.S.

Combined with the faster Internet Explorer browser on Windows Phone 7 devices, 4G should give users a very fast user experience when surfing the internet, searching, or browsing.

Microsoft is trying hard with the
window7.5 phone to stand apart for good from the mobile space kings (ANDROID
and Apple) but, may be Microsoft will still have to wait for the features of
much awaited iOS 5 and Ice Cream sandwich to be disclosed. Apart from the IE9
browser, there are 2 features among the reported 500 features of Mango, those
are Quick Cards and Local Scout. Though both the features are identical, the
Local Scout will give the info about the events happening in the neighborhood
whereas, the Quick Cards displays all the info about a searched item in Bing.

Bring Adobe Flash (or something like it) to a phone and you’ll find a niche.
