Microsoft Puts a Hold on Windows 7 Public Beta

Published

on

According to CNET Microsoft is postponing the release of the Windows 7 Public Beta for an undetermined time. Apparently this is due to the servers being slammed and not being able to keep up.

"Due to very heavy traffic we’re seeing as a result of interest in the Windows 7 Beta, we are adding some additional infrastructure support to the Microsoft.com properties before we post the public beta," Microsoft said in a blog posting, which was itself hard to get to as of 1:20 p.m. PST. "We want to ensure customers have the best possible experience when downloading the beta, and I’ll be posting here again soon once the beta goes live. Stay tuned! We are excited that you are excited!"

Not that we want to see any other servers crash, but CNET links to a Neowin report that lists a direct link where folks can still get the code.

Those 2.5 million windows 7 keys are going to go like wildfire. If you happen to get the dvd and have no key or want to install it on more than 1 pc, remember it will work for 30 days without activation. Valuable for testing till the august kill switch locks it.

    Good tip…
Windows 7 lets reset the 30 day trail timer 3 times with a little know how, this will give you 120 days to use it without having to reinstall. Just make sure you use the trick when you have one day left or you’ll waste a few days.
