MindManager for iPhone Now Available

Published

on

My favorite mindmapping tool, Mindjet’s MindManager is now available for the iPhone. Yep, there’s an app for that. The app will cost you $7.99 and you certainly don’t have all the features you have on the desktop/notebook/Tablet PC version, but if you want to create a quick mindmap while you’re toodling around this might be a great tool.

You can transfer maps back to your PC to do more work and expand your ideas via Bonjour and Safari or IE. Obviously there’s no Inking available for Tablet PC fans. I have not had the opportunity to download and try this out yet, but I’m looking forward to giving it a go.

Here’s the promotional video.

fyi – this is the same app as iThoughts, just rebranded for MindJet. If you own iThoughts, don’t buy this rebranded version.

I gave it a try, but has some issues. For example, I was not able to bring in a MM V8 file — it said incompatible format??? The process of transferring outside Bonjour, etc. is a little clunky. It requires you to use WiFi. You basically make your iPhone a mini web server and transfer it that way. A bit of a pain.

I will still hold out hopes this gets better though!

yeah – you have to rename the file to .xmmap instead of .mmap . Then when you transfer it back to the pc, you have rename it back from .xmmap to .mmap . You can tell MM just rebranded it without giving much thought to their own file format name! The whole file transfer process needs some work for sure. I wish they would have bought iThoughts and improved it for their own product rather than just stick a MM logo on it and call it good. Let’s hope they improve upon in a future release.
