This Mophie Powerstation review combines three different sizes into one, so you can see how well the batteries perform and which one might be the best fit for you.
The Mophie Powerstation 8x review focuses on how it helped me get through the travel of Thanksgiving and a power outage, while the smaller and easier to carry Mophie Powerstation 2X and Mophie Power Reserve 1X are great companions day-to-day.
Shoppers can pick up the Mophie Power Reserve 1X in five colors for $34.95 with a 2,600mAh battery. The Mophie Powerstation 2X is $59.99 with a 4,000mAh battery and the Mophie Powerstation 8X is $149.95 with a 15,000mAh battery.
All these portable batteries come with a small Micro USB charger, but it is not built-in so you can use them with any device that charges over USB. I’ve taken to using the Mophie Power Reserve 1X to charge my Apple Watch and occasionally my iPhone. These batteries use a standard USB port, so you can charge anything from a wearable or a controller to your iPhone, Android or tablet.
The Mophie Powerstation 2X is a great fit for sliding into a pocket or a bag to charge my items or to charge someone else’ gear when it runs low. I particularly enjoy the Mophie Powerstation 8X because the Bluetooth connection allows me to know how much power is left by glancing at an app on my phone and the huge battery makes it a great companion for carrying in my computer bag anywhere I go. The only way it could be any better is if it could charge my MacBook.
Mophie Powerstation 8X Review
Even power users who burn through battery life like oxygen will get a lot of mileage out of the Mophie Powerstation 8X. This 15,000mAh battery and dual USB ports — that includes one fast charging port — packs an impressive amount of power in a slim design. The battery charges with a Micro USB cable.
With Bluetooth connectivity, users can look in the Mophie power app to see how much battery life is left and even get notifications before the battery is dead.
I used the Mophie Powerstation 8X to charge my iPhone up during Thanksgiving that started at 7 AM and lasted until 2 AM. I could have used a Mophie that charged me, but at least this kept my phone going while I drove my Brother in Law home then made the return trip.
This didn’t tax the Powerstation 8X much, so I didn’t put it on the charger yet. I slipped it into my bag and used it to charge the Droid Maxx 2 at a coffee shop this week. There are two ports on the Mophie Powerstation 8X, and one that is lined in green puts out power fast enough to meet the quick charging option for the Droid Maxx 2.
I almost forgot about the battery until later that night when the a problem left our area of town without power. I plugged my iPad Air 2, which was almost dead, into the green fast charging port and filled it up to about 70% so I could at least watch a movie while I went without power.
I was prepared to use it to charge my iPhone overnight, but the power came back on just before 11 PM so I didn’t need it after all. After all this it still has 23% battery life left — which is enough for me to charge the iPhone more than one time.
The incredible amount of power, Bluetooth notifications and quick charging make this an awesome combo.
Mophie Powerstation 2X Review
The Mophie Powerstation 2X is a slightly different battery. This smaller version is easier to slide into a pocket when you head out.
This is a product that I will carry with my in a coat pocket or hoodie pocket when I head out at the end of a busy day and think I might need more power.
With a single USB port it isn’t going to charge multiple devices at the same time, but with enough for two charges of the iPhone you can share a charge with someone else if they need it.
The Mophie Powerstation 2X supports quick charging and like the 8X, if you charge it while also charging something attached to it, your device will charge first.
Mophie Power Reserve 1X
Another smaller option is the Mophie Power Reserve 1X, which is about the size of a large tube of lipstick. When our power went out I used this to charge my Apple Watch overnight. After charging the Apple Watch from 50% to 100% and keeping it charged all night the Mophie Power Reserve 1X still has 50% battery life left.
If you are looking for an always with you battery option the Mophie Power Reserve 1X is a good choice. The small size makes it an excellent option to keep in your car, backpack or purse — and there’s just enough battery life. There is one charging port and a microUSb port to charge it up.
I use these three Mophie batteries in addition to the Mophie iPhone 6s juice Pack Reserve case. On most days the iPhone 6s battery life is enough, but on busy days I need the Mophie Juice Pack Reserve and on crazy days or trips I need the Mophie Powerstation 8X or similar options. Wether you use your smartphone for work or play, running out of power is a real problem — but with the right accessories it’s not an issue.
