Mortal Kombat X Kombat Pack 2 Revealed

Published

on

Video game developer Netherealm and publisher Warner Brothers had a surprise for owners of it’s incredibly popular Mortal Kombat X fighting game for Sony’s PS4 and Microsoft’s Xbox One. The rumored Kombat Pack 2 add-on does exist and it adds some new characters that’ll convincingly spill even more enemy blood across television screens.

Rumors about a possible Kombat Pack 2 add-on began earlier this week with leaked video footage. At the time, many bet that an official announcement for the new fighters would come during The Game Awards show that aired online last night. Those assumptions were correct. Warner Brothers aired the official Kombat Pack 2 trailer during the show. That trailer is available online too. Mortal Kombat X launched on the Xbox One and PS4 earlier this year to great reviews. It’s still a fighting game, but with some improved mechanics, upgraded graphics and a slew of new Fatalities, Brutalities and X-Rays.

The Mortal Kombat X video is here, but gamers need to wait for 2015.

Mortal Kombat X Kombat Pack 2 buyers can look forward to a slew of new characters taken from popular science-fiction and horror films. Leatherface from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre movies is included in the content update. Also included is a Xenomorph taken from Alien, a cult classic. That Netherealm would add characters from classic horror films isn’t exactly a surprise. Paid updates from earlier this year added Jason Vorhees, for example.

The rest of the Kombat Pack 2 characters are inspired by or characters from previous games in the long running series of fighting titles. Bo Rai Cho is coming to Mortal Kombat X. Also included in the pack is Cyrax and Sektor. Robot Smoke is back too, but he’s in the form of Tri-Borg a robot with more than a few powers at his disposal.

The Mortal Kombat X Kombat Pack 2 trailer is absolutely as bloody as you’d expect. The trailer begins with an introduction of each character. We see everything from Leatherface running into a combatant and shoving an operational chainsaw into someone’s chest to an alien bursting out of a character’s chest in all its glory. It’s ridiculously over the top, but that’s the point of Mortal Kombat X. It’s nasty, brutal and satisfying to destroy opponents in the most disgusting ways possible.

With an announcement already out, it’s almost a given that we’ll see the Kombat Pack 2 add-on for Mortal Kombat X arrive early in the new year. Unfortunately, Netherealm and Warner Brothers don’t seem ready to give potential buyers a better idea of when they can expect it. The only says that the add-on is “Coming 2016.”

The description of the content on the Mortal Kombat Community’s posting of the trailer doesn’t reveal the price of the content either. The first Kombat Pack is a dedicated season pass that let users download all the game’s content at no additional charge. It costs players $29.99. That’s on top of the base price of the game. Separately, Warner Brothers sells individual character packs and bundles in the Xbox Store for users that don’t have the Kombat Pack. Because of this, we can assume that this Kombat Pack 2 will cost the same amount and unlock an even bigger line-up of characters than what we know about today.

To celebrate The Game Awards, Warner Brothers has cut the cost of Mortal Kombat X for a limited time. The game is just $29.99 in the Xbox Store and PlayStation Store for a limited time. Mortal Kombat X Premium Edition, a version of the game that includes access to the first Kombat Pass is on sale for $43.99. Used copies of Mortal Kombat X sell for $39.99 at retailer GameStop.

Originally, Warner Brothers planned to release a version of Mortal Kombat X for owners of the Xbox 360 and Sony PS3. After delaying the game, the publisher decided to cancel the title entirely. To play this game and experience the Kombat Pack 2 add-on, gamers will need a current generation console or a Windows PC.
