Moto DROID Turbo Leaks Ahead of Release

Published

on

Initial rumors of a brand new Motorola DROID for Verizon Wireless emerged back in August, and over the past month more and more details have started to surface. While we don’t have all the information yet, new photos leaked this week of the new DROID Turbo ahead of the rumored release date.

The past month has been a rather busy one for Motorola with the release of two brand new smartphones and the Moto 360 smartwatch, but they have more coming soon. After launching the new Moto X and Moto G for 2014, we’re now hearing early next month the Verizon DROID Turbo will arrive to take on the Galaxy S5 and iPhone 6.

Motorola and Verizon have an exclusive deal to offer up “DROID” branded smartphones, and the next chapter in the DROID story has leaked this week. If all the latest reports and rumors are accurate a new DROID Turbo is expected to replace the popular DROID Ultra from last year, and below are a few new photos of it.

Tips have arrived from a familiar source that revealed the Moto X and E ahead of their release dates, provided by HelloMotoHK, and now we’re getting our first glimpse of the slightly redesigned and all-new Moto DROID Turbo.

While Motorola is currently busy shipping the brand new Moto X to carriers and buyers around the US, the company hasn’t forgotten about all the DROID faithfuls over on Verizon Wireless. In fact, if leaks and rumors from earlier this month are accurate it may be the best Motorola smartphone to date.

Below are a few photos of what we’re hearing will arrive as the Verizon DROID Turbo by Motorola.

What we’re seeing here is the back panel for the new DROID Turbo, and not the final product. Which means we can expect to learn even more in the coming days and weeks ahead of the rumored October reveal. So what can we expect from the DROID Turbo? A lot if rumors are to be believed.

Rumors suggest it will feature the same 5.2-inch screen size as the new Moto X, but come with a Quad-HD 2560 x 1440 display similar to the new Galaxy Note 4 and LG G3. However, it’s highly possible this will arrive with a quality 1080p HD display like the Moto X too.

We’re hearing the Turbo will sport a new 2.7 GHz Snapdragon 805 quad-core processor with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, micro-SD support, and feature a massive battery similar to the DROID MAXX from 2013. Instead of multiple new DROID phones like in 2014, rumors speculate there will only be one, and that is the DROID Turbo. Featuring wireless charging, and a new technology (and the Motorola Turbo Charger) that will give users 8 hours of battery life in just 30 minutes.

Here we see a very similar look and feel to past Motorola DROID devices, right down to the fake Kevlar coating for that indestructible and robot-like “DROID” design. There’s a dual flash system similar to the Ring Flash from the Moto X, but separated from the camera, the Motorola logo, and of course huge logos showing off the Verizon Wireless and DROID branding. As usual.

Rumor has it this phone will feature the same 13 megapixel camera on the rear as the Moto X, and a large 3,500 mAh battery for all-day battery life. Add in the quick-charge (Turbo charge) features mentioned above, and this could be one smartphone worth waiting for next month.

Early rumors said the new DROID phone could come equipped with a 20 megapixel camera, rather than match the 13 megapixel shooter on the new Moto X, but we’ll have to wait and see. Last year the DROID lineup was extremely similar to the Moto X (2013) across the board, so we’re expecting something similar in 2014.

The new DROID Turbo is rumored to be announced sometime in early October, and possibly released before the end of the month. We’ll keep an eye out for more details and update once we know more.
