Over the past few years Motorola has dominated the budget smartphone market, and their back in 2017 with the all-new Moto G5 Plus. An impressive smartphone with a big screen, good camera, fingerprint scanner and more for only $229. Now that it’s up for sale here’s what potential buyers need to know.

Essentially Motorola is enticing buyers with a well-rounded premium smartphone but at a budget price point. Delivering a 5.2-inch Full 1080p HD display, all metal design and a better camera than most expect at this price point.

Below we’ll go over everything you need to know. From the full specs, pricing, carrier information and what to expect once the phone arrives. It isn’t customizable like past generations, but there are two models to choose from with different price points. Lets get started.

These days most buyers don’t want to spend $700 or more for a smartphone, and you shouldn’t have to in order to get a good experience. And while the upcoming Galaxy S8 will be great, for a fraction of the price the Moto G5 Plus is worth considering.

Moto G5 Plus Release Date

Motorola unveiled their new budget phone at the end of February, and we’ve been waiting for more details since. Recently though, they confirmed everything for potential buyers.

The Moto G5 Plus will be available online and in select stores starting March 31st. And for as low as $185 from Amazon, with ads, or for $229 elsewhere. That’s one heck of a deal. Users can pre-order now from Motorola.com or retail stores like Best Buy, or just pick one up anytime after March 31st.

Moto G5 Plus Specs & Features

So what makes this phone such a good deal and has everyone talking? Well, everything when you consider in the price point. It has the best camera in this price class, a decent size, and it’s made of metal. Here’s the full rundown for those interested.

Moto G5 Plus Specs

  • 5.2-inch 1920 x 1080p Full HD Display
  • 8-core Snapdragon 625 Processor
  • 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage – or 4GB and 64GB for $299
  • micro-SD card expansion
  • 12 Dual Pixel camera with f/1.7 aperture, HDR, 4K video and more
  • 5MP wide-angle front camera
  • 3,000 mAh battery with Turbo Charging
  • Micro-USB, fingerprint scanner, 3.5mm headphone jack, more
  • Android 7.0 Nougat
  • Support for all four major US carriers
  • Grey or Gold all-metal color options
  • more

As you can see, it has a decent list of specs when you add in the price tag. Delivering enough to satisfy almost any buyers needs without breaking the bank. It’s worth noting the 2GB of RAM and 32GB model is $229, while the higher 4GB and 64GB storage is $299. Either way, both have a microSD slot for storage expansion. So that shouldn’t be an issue either.

It may not have the latest processor, but the rest more than makes up for it. Not to mention the camera configuration sounds similar to the award-winning Galaxy S7, but for an amazingly low price.

Moto G5 Plus Carrier Support

One question we get asked all the time is regarding carrier support. This phone isn’t being sold by carriers, or in their store shelves. Instead it’s sold completely unlocked from 3rd party retailers. However, it works with everyone.

Motorola continues to lead the charge on the unlocked smartphone front. Rather than be locked into a contract or monthly payments, buy this. Then take it to Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, Sprint or regional carriers. It has 4G LTE support for everyone. Which is impressive.

Where to Buy the Moto G5 Plus

As we said above, the Moto G5 Plus will be available from March 31st through multiple channels. The first place is Motorola.com, or Amazon. Although Amazon will put ads on the lockscreen and charge only $185, instead of $229. Which is a good trade-off for some.

With that being said, here’s where you can buy the Moto G5 Plus, and links to get your order placed now.

For right now all retailers are either accepting pre-orders, or have a page where users can register to come back and order come March 31st. And again, no matter where you buy one, it will work with any and all carriers in the US.

Over the years we’ve seen a lot of great budget smartphones released. Like the OnePlus 3T or upcoming OnePlus 5. However, for right now the new Moto G5 Plus may be the best bang for your buck.

I currently own the Motorola Moto G4 Plus and absolutely love it, the near stock android experience, great camera, fingerprint scanner and large battery make it a great buy especially when you consider the price.

I think that Lenovo/Motorla have hit the nail on the head yet again with the G5 Plus. Though it is not a massive step up in terms of performance, the design and construction make the Moto G5 Plus all the more attractive. Especially given the price!
