Motorola Atrix 4G Gingerbread Update Rolls Out to Some Users Today

Published

on

We had heard that it was coming soon and sure enough, Motorola has begun to roll out emails to members of the Motorola Atrix 4G Gingerbread Update soak test telling them that the 4.5.91 update will be rolling out to them today, the update that is going to be the one that has Gingerbread on board.

Like all soak tests, if all goes smoothly, the update will then roll out to the masses shortly after the testing concludes. So, if you’re part of that soak test, here is what Motorola is saying:

  1. Read everything on the overview tab of the private area.
  2. It is advised that you have a battery with 50% charge or more when performing the upgrade.  Secondly, the upgrade should only be downloaded over WiFi, as doing so over 3G could contribute to significant data charges** if you are not on an unlimited plan. If you have trouble downloading through your WiFi network it is advised that you try another WiFi network.
  3. You may elect to back up SMS messages and other non-cloud based content before installing the upgrade. Cloud based content and memory card info is maintained.

Supposedly, the update will be rolling out at some point this afternoon. Keep your fingers crossed that we get an unlocked bootloader with the software because that would only mean good things for other Motorola phone owners.

Exciting times for Atrix 4G owners to be sure. Let’s just hope that the update doesn’t start bricking phones like it did with the Motorola Droid X.

You know what bob? I’m sick and tired of waiting for this stupid update. But there’s really nothing else to do but wait some more. I don’t want to root the thing.

Slightly misleading article title. We already knew about the soak test, but the article got my hopes up, making my think that the general update was underway, only to find out the soak test hasn’t even started yet.
Wake me up when the real update is ready. The one that the other 99% of us are patiently waiting for.

The only people getting the Atrix update should be people participating in the pre-release. Sooooo don’t get too excited. Soaks aren’t concluded yet…. That much is public info

Hi all. When the mass release happens, is the update likely to originate in the droid software check…. or through att? I am on a different carrier and wondering whether i’m going to have to root regardless.

Hi Brian, congrats, how do you like the new Gingerbread? What version is it? , 2.3.2, 2.3.3, or 2.3.4?

Any issues or things not working yet?
Have you tested the Gtalk with video chat yet? Are both cameras working on the chat?

HOW DID YOU GET THE UPGRADE PLEASE? CAN YOU SEND ME THE LINK? OR HOW DO I GET AN INVITATION TO B ON THIS TEST PROGRAM?

Thanks, please reply to me directly…IF YOU PREFER
