The smartphone is running the latest Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, which is great news considering many new phones are still launching with older versions of Android.

Features

The 5 row physical keyboard is the defining feature of the Motorola Droid 3. Physical keyboards, specifically sliding keyboards are the exception these days on Android devices, so we expect to see a heavy demand from users determined to have a hard keyboard on their Android smartphone. The 5 row keyboard includes a dedicated number key at the top of the device, arrow keys and a large enter key.

The Droid 3 has a 4″ qHD Display which offers an amazing viewing experience with a 960 x 540 resolution. Additionally, the phone has support for Mirror Mode, which will stream content to your HDTV over the phone’s HDMI output. Smart Dock technology will change your device’s dock configuration based on where you have docked it, allowing you to customize your experience at work, home or in the car. MOTOPRINT enables wireless printing from the Droid 3 to networked printers, similar to the way AirPrint allows wireless printing on iOS devices.

Pricing and Availability

The Motorola Droid 3 is available online today for $199 with a 2 year contract and for $459 without a contract. The Droid 3 requires a data package to be used on Verizon. If you already have an unlimited plan you can use it with this new phone. If you are a new customer, or are upgrading to your first smartphone on Verizon you will need to choose a new tiered data plan, which start at $30 a month.

    Darn…tempting, too bad it doesn’t have 4G.

I would love a better physical keyboard than my Droid 1!  I’m curious about the performance of the TI processor/gfx versus the Terga in the Droid X2, someone will test that soon I’ll bet!

I live in Australia, but I’ve heard that the phone is global, does that mean I can buy it without a contract and use it in Australia by putting in an Australian sim?
