Motorola Droid 3 Gets Fully Detailed Ahead of Launch

Published

on

Before today, we had a pretty good idea about what the Motorola Droid 3 would be bringing to the table when it arrives on Verizon, possibly as soon as July 7th. Today, we’ve got confirmation on the specifications that are going to make up Verizon’s third incarnation of their QWERTY design Droid.

Motorola Droid 3

The information comes a side-by-side spec comparison sheet dug up by Android Central showing the Verizon’s Droid 3 placed next to the Gingerbread-less Motorola Droid 2 Global and the Motorola Droid X2.

So, now for those specs. The Droid 3, as expected, is going to come with a 4-inch qHD display which means it’s going to have 540×960 resolution and it’s also going to be coming with a dual-core TI OMAP 4430 1GHz processor. It’s going to be a world phone which means you can take it to GSM networks across the globe and it’s also going to feature an 8MP rear camera capable of recording 1080p video.

It’ll have 16GB of internal memory but no microSD card pre-installed, DLNA support, a front facing camera, and unfortunately, it’s not going to be coming with 4G LTE support which is something we’ve known for quite some time. It’s also going to launch with Android 2.3 Gingerbread.

And yes, the 5-row keyboard is a go.

Now that this is out, expect an announcement soon, possibly as soon as tomorrow. Anyone going to make this their next phone?

I was looking forward to it until I read about the PenTile screen. I’ve seen one of those screens in person and yes, it’s noticeably worse. I’m waiting for the Galaxy S 2 on Verizon now.

I seriously hate when people keep complaining that it doesn’t have 4g.  A few of my friends have 4g and I am not impressed at all, 3g with the dual core processors will be just fine.  4g isn’t expected to be everywhere in the US until 2013 anyway so there are too many places now that don’t even support 4g yet.  Also too, when tiered data arrives, you will be paying more for your 4g that is not a real improvement.  This phone is 100% being bought on release day I can’t wait.

Exactly. I’m not in a 4G area and we’ll probably be one of the last to get it. So no 4G is no huge loss to me. Overall, the features give me everything I’ve been waiting for on a Verizon phone.

I’ve got 4G in my area but I know someone with a Thunderbolt who keeps his on 3G since 4G sucks the battery so quickly.  Sure it may be nice to have when you want it but I’d be happy just using wi-fi for anything that requires a lot of speed.  I am really interested in this device though because it supports onboard encryption and I’ve been waiting for a front facing camera with full keyboard.  Now only if I can easily get rid of the Motorola UI.

When are they going to create a phone that is 4g, dual core with 8mp rear camera 2mp front, with a HD screen and keyboard?

I just ordered one this morning!!!!!! I can’t wait. I have had a droid 1 for two years and I would not trade it for anything less than droid 2 or 3. I love the keyboard!!!!!!!
