Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich Roll Out Gets Closer

Published

on

Motorola has said that the Motorola Droid Bionic Ice Cream Sandwich update would be coming in Q3 and it appears that the release of the update is on schedule as a test build has surfaced.

According to Droid-Life, a test build apparently leaked over the weekend, found by the Cheesecake app.

The app troves through the servers that Motorola uses to host its files and it appears that it caught something.

Now, this might not seem like big news. After all, the software, at this time, can’t be flashed. However, it’s a sign that the gears are in motion and Motorola has, at the very least, gotten to work on prepping Android 4.0 for the Droid Bionic.

Motorola has said that it wouldn’t roll out until Q3 which leaves Droid Bionic owners with a large window that spans across July, August and September.

However, now that a test build is out in the wild, it appears that the Droid Bionic update might actually be closer than some owners might think.

Just how close? We can’t be sure but now might be the time to start crossing those fingers for a July release.

As we’ve argued, Motorola and Verizon owe Droid Bionic owners after the debacle of a launch that took place in September of 2011. After touting the Droid Bionic at CES in January, Motorola and Verizon ended up delaying the Droid Bionic until September, only to release the Motorola Droid RAZR, an arguably superior phone, shortly after.

Our review of the Motorola Droid Bionic found it to be a solid 4G LTE device and one that could surely benefit from the features that Android 4.0 provides.

Bionic has a removable battery, RAZR doesn’t. Not upset at all about the RAZR release shortly after I bought my Bionic.

I actually have friends who got the RAZR and danced it around in front of me. And, I just chuckled at them when I asked them about how to fix a freeze up. Now that they have had them for a while, as I have had my Bionic since release, They cry about how much of a piece of junk it is. And, furthermore, One of my other buddies wanted the Maxx sooo bad he almost had an “episode”, until he got it and it froze within 24 hours of having it. He asked my opinion often and I told him that my Bionic was a really well made phone. I am not a RAZR hater but, when every person except 1, that I know who has one complains about the phone. Well, that just makes me sketchy about whatever “said” device.

Yesterday, a VZW tech support guy, while troubleshoot my data connection problems, said that they announced that the Bionic will NOT get ICS. Like, ever. Said he was gonna get one until that was announced.

Im not sure what to believe anymore.

Their web page at https://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c was updated on June 13 2012, and now says “Rollout begins in early Q3 2012” for the Droid Bionic.

Never listen to a Verizon tech support guy about any internal verizon decisions. Thats like asking the guy that flips the burgers at Burger King if he knows what the chicken tenders are made out of.
