Motorola Droid Bionic LapDock Priced at $300?

Published

on

Leaked pricing suggest that Motorola and Verizon Wireless may be pricing the unique LapDock laptop dock accessory at $300, a far cry from affordability considering that users can get a full netbook that is capable of so much more for the same price. The LapDock garnered a lot of attention at CES earlier this year when it was released for the AT&T Mobility Atrix 4G smartphone, but since then, it has also garnered a lot of criticism for pricing.

Not only is the accessory itself costly, and is priced like a notebook, AT&T also required an additional mandatory tethering plan add-on to use the LapDock. Given that the LapDock itself is a ‘dumb’ accessory that has no OS, no CPU or GPU, and is basically just a shell with a large keyboard, screen, added battery, and touchpad, it makes no sense to require a tethering plan as everything–OS, processing power, modem–was driven from the smartphone itself.

At this stage, it’s unclear if Verizon Wireless will be requiring users to add the extra tethering plan to use the LapDock.

The $300 pricing leak comes by way of The Droid Guy, which obtained a screenshot of Verizon’s system depicting the $299.97 price tag.

$300.00 is not a completely unreasonable price, but I absolutely will not may an additional tethering fee for essentially using the data plan that I’m already paying for.

I can buy a laptop that will do much more for that price. How is it unreasonable? It’s way overpriced considering how little you can do with it.

Soooo, $300 for the phone, and another $300 for the dock? Yeah… I’ll stick with my M11x thank you.

Nobody is going to spend that much…just wait and vendors will be giving them away when they flop.  How many Atrix users do you see walking around with the laptop dock?  You’ll be able to get them on ebay for $50 soon enough.

The price will drop on the laptop dock as I doubt hardly anyone will pay that much for so little and there will be package deals.  Just wait until the iPhone 5, HTC Vigor, Nexus Prime and LG Revolution 2 come out.  Everything Bionic will drop in price.

    Lol.  So lets review:

    – Bionic revealed in January for an April release
    – Pushed back to what we thought would be June and ended up being September.  No updates other than a ‘hang tight’ (smh…)

    – The phone finally shows up for $300 release date in September
    – Now, they want $300 for a bootleg netbook PLUS the addition a tethering plan on top of my already expensive unlimited data plan????  I hope this isn’t true but if so, Verizon and Motorola can kiss my dog’s butt!

now we know some of the reasons why the bionic took so long to release, they had to make all those stupid gadgets to go along with it for our “enhanced user experience”. They should have spent the extra time making the bionic a better smartphone, idiots!! Nobody is going to buy that junk unless it comes bundled with the phone. Motorola really missed it on this one. Can’t wait for the Motorola HD!
