Motorola Droid Bionic Poised to Get Important Update

Published

on

Verizon is ready to deliver an important update to the Motorola Droid Bionic. Unfortunately for owners, it’s not Ice Cream Sandwich but it’s still a fantastic update nonetheless.

While the update, the contents of which Verizon has posted to its website, may not feature an extensive list of bug fixes and enhancements, it does contain one big feature that should delight those who purchased Verizon’s first dual-core 4G LTE smartphone.

First discovered by the folks at Droid-Life, the update promises to “reduce data stalls to improve 4G LTE data connectivity.” This is absolutely huge for Droid Bionic owners and should shore up the issues that many of you have written in to complain about over the last ten months.

In addition, the software update will offer up an improved visual voicemail which will help to make sure that notifications will appear in the device’s status bar.

Verizon has also fixed some sound issues for users making calls using Bluetooth.

All in all, it’s a small 42.5MB update but that data connectivity fix is going to be an important one for many Droid Bionic owners out there.

Obviously, this isn’t the update that the masses were looking for. That update is, of course, the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update that Motorola has promised for the device.

The manufacturer says that the update will be out in Q3 of 2012 which means it could roll out any time during the months of July, August and September.

No specific date for the Android 4.0 roll out has been given.

As for the bug fix update, we expect it to roll out to Droid Bionic owners at some point in the near future.

Keep an eye out.

Why do all of you tech bloggers leave out one important detail about the ICS timetable for the Bionic? You all seem to mention Q3, but fail to mention that according to Moto, it will be “EARLY Q3” – with emphasis on “EARLY”. Meaning closer to the July side of things, than the September side of things.

I agree. And EARLY Q3 starts less than a month from now. Could it be that soon? That would be great. ICS – come on we are waiting for you. By the way, I still love my Bionic and once ICS is here, this phone is gonna be hard to beat (vs smartphones with similar specs).
