New Kindle Fire, Light Up Kindle Likely at Amazon’s September 6th Event

Amazon just sent out press invitations to an event in California for September 6th. The event details remain unknown, but we expect Amazon will unveil the new Kindle Fire tablet, or tablets at this event.

A new Kindle Fire would arrive to a crowded 7-inch tablet market, but Amazon obviously hopes to convince users its walled garden approach is better than the $199 Nexus 7.

Amazon already cleared stock of older Kindle devices and accessories with a day of deep discount deals on August 10th, including a big discount on the 10-inch Amazon Kindle DX.

Amazon could also introduce a collection of new eInk Kindle eReaders at the event, perhaps introducing a model with a light up display similar to the Nook SimpleTouch with Glowlight.

Retailer Staples is planning on a multiple tablet launch with the Kindle Fire, counting on five or six variations of the new Kindle Fire. The new Kindle Fire may arrive in multiple sizes, with a new 7-inch model and a 10-inch Kindle Fire to compete with the iPad. Amazon may also add 3G or 4G LTE connectivity to some models.

The new 7-inch Kindle Fire is rumored to sport a better display with a 1280 x 800 resolution. Other rumors suggest a new metal frame, but plastic construction. The render below shows the rumored metal frame and plastic back, but may not represent what the Kindle Fire 2 will look like.

Amazon is on an offensive to carve out a space for the Kindle Fire in an iPad heavy market. Recent actions include software improvements that match Apple features. Amazon recently launched GameCircle, a service that competes with Apple’s GameCenter, bringing leaderboards and achievements to Kindle Fire games.

At the end of July Amazon introduced Scan and Match for Amazon Cloud Player, a new service that scans the songs on a user’s hard drive and matches them with version on Amazon so there’s no need to upload thousands of music files. This service competes with iTunes Match.

Amazon’s September 6th event is six days before Apple is rumored to announce the new iPhone 5, and possibly show off the iPad Mini at the company’s California headquarters.

When we travel, be it overnight or for a couple of weeks, one of the things many people take with them is a book or two. This might be a reading book or perhaps a travel book relating to the holiday destination. Either way books can be heavy and of course take up room when packing. So is there a better option?
