Nexus 4 Shipping Dates Pushed to 2013

Published

on

Yesterday, Google put the Nexus 4 up for sale for the second time this month. And for the second time this month, the device sold out almost instantly. However, instead of simply showing the device as “Sold Out,” Google has instead left the Nexus 4 up for sale through the Google Play Store with increasingly bad shipping times attached to the two different models.

When the dust settled yesterday, the Nexus 4 emerged with some pretty bad wait times. Those who were looking at picking up a 8GB Nexus 4 were looking at shipping times of 5-6 weeks while those looking to get the 16GB Nexus 4 saw shipping times of 1-2 weeks. Throughout the day, those shipping times got progressively worse and now, today, they are as bad as they have ever been.

The Nexus 4 is facing long shipping times.

Currently, the 16GB Nexus 4 is slated to ship out in 4-5 weeks, much longer than yesterday and the 8GB Nexus 4 is seeing wait times of two months. Translation: 8-9 weeks before it ships out. That means that those who might have been planning to get this phone for the holiday season might have to start looking at alternatives.

So instead of looking at a “Sold Out” sign, customers can indeed place orders, they’re just going to be facing extremely long waits for the Nexus 4. Of course, it’s possible that Google might be sending these devices out sooner than what the website says but we likely won’t know for sure for a few weeks when the first shipments to those that weren’t able to get two-day delivery start heading out.

It’s also possible that the shipping times could get worse as more people place orders for the Nexus 4. At this point they are horrendous but there is no telling how bad they could get in the next few days so long as people keep placing orders.

This is the second time this month that customers have faced problems ordering the Nexus 4 from Google. The first day it went on sale, customers were greeted with site issues and uncertainty and yesterday’s ordering session fared no better.

And now, it looks like some customers won’t see their Nexus 4 for two months.

Many people are getting shipping notices today, a day after they made the transaction. It all depends on where you were in line – it appears that the estimate given at purchase is just a worst-case scenario.

I’m pretty sure the people who got their notifications today / yesterday were on back-order. There were loads of people still on back-order, so if there’s any Nexus 4’s left over, it’s possible they’re going to the early buyers of yesterday.
