Nexus 4 Deals Arrive Ahead of Black Friday

On the heels of the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 Android 5.0 Lollipop updates comes two new Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 deals that offer a steep discount ahead of Black Friday.

In 2012, Google released a Nexus tablet and a Nexus smartphone. The tablet, the Nexus 7, a device that it released to compete against the likes of the iPad mini, Kindle Fire, and more. The smartphone, the Nexus 4, arrived at the end of the year to replace the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. After getting off to an extremely rough start, the Nexus 4 settled in as one of the best smartphones money can buy.

The two devices aren’t getting any younger but that doesn’t mean that they should be ignored. Especially when you consider the fact that Google recently updated both the Nexus 4 and the Nexus 7 with Android 5.0 Lollipop. Android 5.0 Lollipop might be their last major Android update but the update helps to breathe new life into these two former flagships. And that’s what should make these new Nexus 7 and Nexus 4 deals tempting to some buyers.

Expansys USA is offering two different bundles that combine refurbished versions of the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 2012. They also include a bumper case for the Nexus 4, a necessity given that the glass back of the Nexus 4 is susceptible to cracks and damage. The prices for these bundles should be attractive to those looking to buy ahead of Black Friday and ahead of the holidays.

The retailer is offering the 8GB Nexus 4 and 16GB Nexus 7 2012 bundle for a mere $159.99. Those that need a little more storage can opt for the 16GB Nexus 4 with the 16GB Nexus 7 2012. That bundle is going for a mere $179.99 for all three products. That’s a nice little discount over the retailers usual offer and it’s a deal that buyers probably won’t find anywhere else. Google no longer sells either device and is instead focused on its new Nexus products, the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9.

While these two Nexus devices no longer offer the best specs money can buy, they’ll be good enough for average users with basic needs. Despite not having LTE data on board, the Nexus 4 was one of the best smartphones of 2012 and 2013 thanks to its collection of specifications which include a speedy processor, gorgeous display, and solid design.

Google’s Nexus 7 also comes with some aging but decent specs including a 7-inch display, black matte design, and a fast processor. Both devices now come with Android 5.0 Lollipop, Google’s new operating system that delivers a number of brand new features including the all new Material Design that changes the way Android looks and feels.

Android 5.0 is also rolling out to several other Nexus devices including the Nexus 5, Nexus 7 2013, and Nexus 10. The Nexus 5 was the successor to the Nexus 4 while the Nexus 7 2013 is the newer version of the Nexus 7. Google still sells the Nexus 5 but it’s discontinued the Nexus 7 in favor of the all new Nexus 9 tablet by HTC.

We still haven’t seen many Google Nexus Black Friday deals emerge making these two deals attractive to those that want vanilla Android software and the full Google experience. These deals though will have to compete against a number of non-Nexus Android update deals including a huge Galaxy S5 price cut at Amazon that drops the prices all the way down to $1.

It’s not clear where either device goes from here. Google typically keeps devices updated for two years before kicking them to the curb so Android 5.0 Lollipop could represent the final updates for these two devices. Consumers will want to keep that in mind before taking advantage of these bundles either for themselves or for loved ones during the upcoming holiday season.
